Hi I'm new to this forum and I'm trying to find information on adding the tow hitch. I've found really good info so far, but I have a question.

When I read the directions about installing the Honda hitch, you had to drill through the inside rear of the car so you could install some plates. Why does the honda hitch mount from inside the rear of the car? Why aren't any of the other hitches (Curt, U-Haul, etc.) mounting through the car as well? Are the mounting points under the car strong enough to mount to by themselves?

Thanks,

Jud

What are you driving? Model, year? Where did you find these directions? More info needed!! The ones I have looked at for my 07 V EX requires NO drilling. You must be mistaken about it being a mounting point to the frame of the vehicle.

We installed the Curt 2" hitch on our 07 NAV...it took all of twenty minutes. No drilling, it fit right up to the holes already in the frame. As for strength, it's rated at 3k lbs, I think. That much weight, I'd be uncomfortable towing with the CR-V.

Any hitch on the CR-V is probably suitable for bike racks and towing small, light trailers. Too much weight, and it'll be the tail wagging the dog.

I have a 2002 Honda CR-V.

These are the directions for installing the factory hitch.

http://www.hondasuv.com/pdf/crv/crv_02_trailerhitch.pdf

If you scroll down to pages 5 and 6, you will see it says the carpet is rolled back, the table is removed, the cargo area coverpiece is removed, then you cut four holes from inside the rear area through the floor. Then you install the mounting plates from the inside with the carriage bolts. The factory hitch bolts on from there.

So again my question, why go through all that trouble?

Thanks,

Jud

JudThe factory hitch is not as strong as the others due to the mounting locations. This is one of the reasons why the factory hitch has such a low tongue weight maximum.

Curt all the way, Installation on my 06, was about 20min. the only problem was, I hade to put a small dent on top of the muffler so the bolt wouldn't rest on it,
