I'm looking at buying a 1997 CRV. I have only one concern it has over 350,000 KM on it (about 200,000 miles)! Should I be worried? I know it has been extensively serviced by its one and only owner and doesn't have any squeaks or rattles. Just how far can the CRV engine go?

The 1st-gen's B20-series engine was borrowed from the Acura Integra and is considered to be among Honda's best. With mindful upkeep it should last well beyond 200k.

That said, I'd definitely have the vehicle inspected by a Honda mechanic (if only for peace of mind). A new timing belt (http://www.crvownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126) may be in order if the current one has over 100k miles (161k kilometers). I'd also have the valve adjustment checked, as valves on some earlier Vs have shown a tendency to stick and burn when running tighter than spec.

Best o' luck! Keep us apprised.

Yes please do keep up up to date. If you can get it at a good price, go for it. Honda owners love to hear about high mileage performance.:)

Thanks for the advice. Saddly they decided that they were not going to sell. So I'm still in the market for a early CRV in Atlantic Canada is anyone has any leads!
