Just wanted to put in my two cents about CR-Vs in snow. Mine handled 12 to 14 inches without any problems. Yes, the V was pushing snow with the front bumper. The snow was powder and it did push out of the way fairly easily. I left continuous under carriage drag marks all the way. It pays to have good snow tires when you live at 1800 ft in Vermont.

Thanks, with the recent chill in the air thats the last thing I want to see! lol . Had crappy all seasons on mine when I bought it last year(98 awd) and had no problems getting around, until mudd season. Wife had to pull me out of a sink hole on a back road when scouting for turkey. Went up a road that had been only partially plowed and when I came to pile of snow where they stopped ,thought about booting right through it. Thought better and started to turn around and drivers side front dropped into a sink hole cut out by the runoff. If I had another adult with me would have been able to push it out but took a mud bath when my 10 year old gunned it when I was pushing! No problem with the rig ....operator error. Good to see another Vermonter out there , I'm in Northfield where are you located?

I know what you mean about mud season. I'm on a dirt road near the base of Camel's Hump.

No real reason to take pictures of my V until joining this forum. You can bet I'll take some now though. You don't have to ask me twice. V in Vermont coming right up.

Pictures taken about a year ago. Have installed a grill insert since.

You guys put your V's through so much. Mine hardly sees any rain, and hasn't left the pavement since I got her.

Maybe I'm just babying her too much.

If that's what you like, then baby away. But, if the thought of an occasional jaunt into the weeds with your V sounds interesting, then you certainly shouldn't resist. CR-Vs are a lot more capable than most owners realize. They don't have a low range or locking differentials so they won't rock crawl but I personally don't consider being banged around to be much fun anyway. I have also been stuck (mud) really bad in a 4X4 and that wasn't fun either.

Moderate off-roading, however, is really a lot of fun. Living in Texas, I'm guessing that you are not interested in the V's snow capabilities. I think of my V as a 2WD on steroids. I try keep the rear axle disengaged but I know it's there if I need it. Along with the RT4WD system, a V also has reasonable ground clearance and approach/departure angles.

Check out the rest of "Off The Beaten Path", if you haven't already, and YouTube videos too. They will give you some idea of what a V can do. Other parts of the forum will give you some tips on what to carry with you for recovery and safety, should you decide you want to go off-road regularly.

Best of luck.:D

Good stuff. It won't be long and I'll need some high quality CR-V photos in snowy landscapes. I bet you can contribute to that. :)

It will be my pleasure. I just need Vermont to cooperate. My wife is a moderator at easternuswx.com and takes a lot of weather related pictures for that forum. She and I both love to get out in storms.:D
