Many times, dealers would place the code (on little stickers) in various places in the car. It can be located inside the fuse box cover both under hood or inside fuse box, on the inside of the glove box door, etc. Check also to see if it was written inside the owners manual.
Failing that, your local dealer can give you the code. You will need the VIN of the vehicle and probably need proof of ownership. Do not allow them to charge you for giving you the code. They should do it for free. If not, find a new dealer.

The dealer may be thinking they have to remove the radio to get the serial number. In order to get the radio code they have to enter the serial number into their system.
On the older models that involved taking the radio out to get at the number. On the 2002 and up CRV's you can get the radio to display the serial number (see attached picture). They still need to enter the serial number into their system and should require some proof from you that the car and the radio are yours. That should just be the registration and your license.

Can you post step 5 and beyond?
Thanks.

Thanks.
Step 5 is for the dealer. Just instructs us to enter the serial number in to hondacom to get the code.
Step 6 is to enter the code into the radio.

Ah yes, everything worked, and Honda (Pacific Honda in San Diego) took care of it with no charge. Good times to have the tunes back!

Just had to replace the battery and realized that my radio needs a code.
I found this thread and followed the instructions but no-go.
I have a 99 CRV EX with the cd player.
I cannot find any stickers anywhere and am hoping not to have to pull my car apart.
Is there an easy way to find the serial on the unit? is it on the back or top.
Thanks
Paul

I had a CRV radio in my Integra and if my memory is correct it was on the bottom of the radio.
If you need directions on how to pull your radio out you can use the install guide for the Honda accessory CD player as a guide.

Thanks, I'm hoping to get a glance at the number rather than having to pull it all apart.

PaulI don't think you can do that. You have to pull off the panels and remove the radio to see it.
I also just went into the garage and checked my old 99 AM/FM/Cassette and it has the serial number on the bottom.
Although, with 20 minutes of work ahead of you, just to get it out, may as well buy an aftermarket head unit. If you desire to keep it looking stock, but want something better, get a 2000+ Prelude unit. It has more power and better sound and has the nice amber lighting to match the 99's interior lights. It really does plug right in. I have one on my 99. Just check the rear plugin to make sure.

Done deal - thanks.
I saw that there was a number stamped into the bottom of the radio but did not think it was the serial as is was a small number. I also then found the same number in the manual but again thought it was to small of a number.
It was only when I had the whole thing out that I discovered that it was the correct number. I always figured that the serial would be more letters and numbers.
It was not that hard to remove. I did not put in the newer radio (DEH-P6200) as it is a Pioneer and I found out the the changer is Alpine and that the radio uses i-bus and I could now find a wiring coversion anywhere.
Thanks for all of your help

My question is about the other Honda in the fleet. I drive a 2003 CR-V, and my wife drives a 2001 Prelude. Can I use the same 1 & 6 buttons to get the Prelude radio/CD serial number?
We have never had the battery out of her car. That may be needed soon. I want to clean the battery connections.
Thanks all of you.
I have learned a ton about both Hondas here.

Just try it. It either works or it doesn't. However, the 2000 Prelude radio i stuck in my 99 doesn't do the serial number thing.

yes but
If 1&6 works, I get the serial number and I can go to the Honda stealership and get the code.
If 1&6 does not work, I have to learn how to pull the stereo out of the console and read a serial number sticker which I have never seen before. Then go to the stealership.
Either way my better half has no ACDC on her less-than-one-kilometre commute. And that's bad for me, let me tell you.
thanks for the suggestion, even though it has a risk, I think that is exactly what I will do.

thanks for the suggestion, even though it has a risk, I think that is exactly what I will do.There is no risk in simply pressing the button sequence to get the serial number. It either works or it doesn't. However, make multiple attempts if it doesn't work the first time. They seem to be sensitive to the exact manner in which you follow the instructions.

I too need a code to reset CD in 2001 CRV EX. I read through here that code is sometimes found in exterior fuse box, interior fuse box, glove compartment. Manual indicates that code is 5 digits long. I have already tried the 1&6 and it did not work. Instead I have Err1 indicating 1 of 10 attempts failed. I can see some alphanumeric code in the glovebox. Before I go entering wrong codes into the CD-Radio, could you post examples of what codes in exterior fuse box, interior fuse box, or glove compartment look like and how to discern the 5 digit cd-radio code?

The alphanumeric code inside the glove box I indicated in my last post turned out to be the serial number of the CD radio. It is 9 digits long. In another post in this forum, the CD radio serial number was purported to be 8 digits long. I suppose it varies 8-9 digits long. A local dealer quickly revealed the CD Radio code with this 9 digit serial number. CD Radio back on, no CD radio removal was necessary.

Very glad your back up and running.:) Hopefully the dealer asked for proof that the radio was yours. The whole point of having the code is to deter theft by rendering the equipment useless if it is separated from the vehicle.

One has to wonder - who the hell would steal factory radio
I am not aware of nay other car manufacturer doing it (putting anti-theft codes on OEM factory radios)

https://radio-navicode.honda.com/
This site - a Honda website, allows you to type the VIN, some of your information, the serial number of your radio, and will give you the passcode.
The card that is in my owners manual binder, isn't the set from my car! The service record book had been filled out indicating the color of my car was Green. So I didn't trust the code on the card with the books.
Getting the serial number isn't difficult, but everyone seems to be missing a step - clearing the radio to begin with. Most have this already done, by replacing the battery or something that has caused the "code" to display.
So I cleared the radio as indicated at this site - pulled the backup fuse. This is Fuse 9 in the Fuse Box in the engine compartment. To find this, or any fuse - remove the cover. Look for the arrow on the compartment and the cover and line them up. Then find the fuse by looking at the cover layout and the inside of the fuse box.
As it turns out, the card with my car is the correct serial number, with the correct code.
For a factory radio - it is a decent one. I am considering getting the honda subwoofer. Does anyone have this, and how do you like it?
Another note - I drove my wife's Dodge Caravan today, I kept trying to adjust the radio by the steering wheel! ARGH!!!
I hope this helps someone.
