View Full Version : Being Towed Behind a Motorhome

My salesperson said she heard somewhere that it "might" be recommended to turn VSA off when my '07 CR-V is being towed behind my motorhome. I can't find anything in the owner's manual about this, and it sounds a bit odd in that the vehicle isn't even running when being towed, but I thought I'd just toss it out to the forum in case anyone ever heard of this before. I asked in the service department - they basically said the sales lady was nuts and that no it did not need to be turned off. Any ideas on this? Thanks.

I don't know the answer to your question but it does not seem likely that the VSA would be active with the ignition off. There are some very specific things that you must do to prevent transmission damage when towing and you should read carefully the instructions in the owner's manual (note the warning against shifting from reverse to neutral on page 251).
Due to the fact that you are supposed to tow the vehicle with the key in the accessory position (to unlock the steering wheel) it could be possible that the vehicle's computer may be active and attempt VSA corrections, but it does not seem likely. It might be a good question to pose to Honda Corporate.

Just follow the owner's manual instructions, IMPLICITLY, when towing behind a motorhome.

Thanks Black Pearl and 2RedV's. You are right, the OM is very explicit about this method of towing. I am totally convinced that had there been any consideration for the VSA system, it would have been clearly documented. As you recommend, I will go exactly by the book and do nothing with the VSA. Really appreciate your input!
