Honda uses an original oil fill that is high in moly and helps with proper break-in. This info is also detailed in your owner's manual. People that tell you to change it at 1000 miles are either living in the past or are trying to make money off of your changing of the oil too early.

I got 3000 miles on my 2007 EX-L with Navi already and it's still indicating that the oil life is 70%. Whoever's telling you to change the oil now obviously doesn't know what they're talkin about.

I know that the oil life in my car is like 90% right about now. But im not changing it for that reason it has been a known thing to change oil after 1k not because its used but im guessing for the reason that after its goes thru the engine, it needs to be replaced after 1k. So you guys are positive that no need to change it. Just want to be safe i plan on keeping this car for many years.

Absolutely do not change your oil right now. 2RedV is absolutely correct. I had my first oil change at just over 6,500 miles. This was a little disconcerting to me since this was the first time waiting this long but it is better for my CRV's engine in the long run. Leaving it for this long helps all the seals within the engine due to the break in oil that 2RedV indicated in his post. Also, the additives in normal oil now are better formulated than in the past which allows for the longer period of oil changes that are now being recommended after the first oil change (no matter if you like conventional or synthetic oil.

I own multiple vehicles now (way more than my 2 beloved Honda's) and have owned well over 60 over the years. Engines and oils have improved drastically over the last 10 years and the modern engine just doesn't need as frequent of oil changes as they used to. It wastes your money and is a waste to the environment as well.

So when should I change oil then, at what percetage?

I'd say once it drops below 20% its time to plan on changing it. You could let it go to zero, but what would that really do for you? Your in no hurry right now, nor will you be at 20%, but its a good time to start thinking about your next oil change.

According to the 07 owner manual (pg 259), when the service reminder (Wrench Icon) comes on (at 15% to 1 %) you should have the maintenance performed.

The "SERVICE" message will appear a 5 %.

If you go beyond 0% the display will indicate negative mileage (miles past the required maintenance point).

So cool, thanks for the responses. I'm so used to getting it every 3 months, now I feel I wont for awhile, still at 90% and have driven it over 1000 miles.

I get 2 free oil changes from my dealer.

Just FYI ...

When I bought my CR-V, the dealer told me to bring it in for service when it got to 15%. They said if I brought it in before that, then they would just tell me to leave and come back at 15%.

I had the same experience when I bought the car. It just turned 8,500 and it was down to 15%. Brought it to the dealer for it's first oil change.

When I told my brother, he couldn't believe I waited that long. I told him what the dealer (and lots of googling) said about the oil indicator. I think he thinks I'm still nuts for waiting so long.

It's not the oil break down that bothers me w/a new vehicle, your right, they use very good break in oil, but rather it is the material in it that happens w/the normal break in process, such as metal particles, as well "possible" left over material from the manufacturing process of the engine itself, such as metal chips and casting material.

Japanese engines are known to be very tightly manufactured engines, unlike American engines. My last new vehicle I bought was a 2003 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. It's engine wasn't considered broken it until around 15,000 miles. It's first oil change wasn't recomended until 5,000 miles. I changed my oil filter at 1,000 miles and then did an oil/filter change at 3,000 miles.

The last new Honda vehicle I bought was a 2002 Acura, which's first oil change wasn't recommended until 10,000 miles. I again changed my oil filter at 1,000 miles w/an oil/filter change at 3,000 miles.

My 2003 BMW 330Ci's first recommended oil change wasn't until 15,000 miles.

If you are comfortable waiting w/your first oil change, I would at the very least, change the oil filter at 1,000 miles, top off the oil, which shouldn't be very much, since the oil filters are very small, then again at 3,000 miles. It can't hurt, and for Pete's sake, stay the way from "cheap" oil filters like Fram. Get either a Honda OEM, or purchase a NAPA, WIX, Purolator, etc, essentially anything but Fram.

Why not Frams, because they are cheaply manufactured. Why else do they sell for $2.99 (US)? I've seen cut-a-ways of them, compared to other brands, plus they are known to actually disintegrate while in the engine. I've not only read about it happening, but mechanics that I have met over the years, have actually seen it happen, w/both autos and motorcycles.

Don't forget the rest of the powertrain, such as the differentials and transmissions. They too will have the same break in issues as the engine. With the rear differential and a manual transmission, I would do it at say 15,000 mile, to clean them out, then follow the manufacture's recommendations. With an automatic though, I'm sorry, but I would change it's oil, and filter, don't forget that, at 10,000 miles, then do it on a yearly basis. I'm sure someone will argue w/that.

Automatic transmissions are the weakest component of the vehicle. They can, and do fail at any time. Don't listen to what the manufacturer recommends w/the automatic transmission maintenance. BMW, for example, recommends it's first oil/filter change, w/it's automatic transmissions, at 100,000 miles. It's no wonder they tend to fail so much.
