Alright guys this is my first post and I wanna start off by getting straight to business. I live in deep south Texas and am all about Honda's, I have a N/A Black 98 BB6 SH which catches everyones eye because its the only one in town. I have been with my fiance for 2 years and when I met her I changed her perception on imported cars, only Honda really, but none-the-less she gave up on her always breaking down six popper 95 rustang and now drives a Silver 97 DC4 (Integra) leather and all that good stuff, auto though. Well her parents are now wanting to sell the rustang which her father now drives as well as their other daily beater a 97 Pontiac Grand Am all mechanical interior with power nothing and no A/C (FINALLY!!!), and want to buy a mid sized SUV for themselves so they won't be all cramped up in two door cars and are looking to use the money they get from their daily beaters as a down payment.

Here is the dilemma, after her parents came to realization of wanting a mid sized SUV her father wants to buy a stupid ass gas guzzling Equinox cause he thinks they are better than the CR-V!!! Can you believe that?!?! Well I am trying to convince him into buying a CR-V whether it be B20 or K24 powered, preferably K24, I would love to hear all of your input on this topic and hopefully after he reads this tomorrow, which he will because I am going over to their house tomorrow night after my Anatomy and Physiology Exam to hopefully show him some comparisons online and also on this forum. Before long with ya'lls info I can sell them on purchasing the economically friendly CR-V instead of that wack ass gas guzzling Equinox matchbox POS. SO please do post up in this thread with all the info on either the B20 or K24 powered CR-V's. Thanks guys much appreciated and before long I will be reppin a CRV-OC sticker here in South Texas. Peace.

If I am not mistaken, the Equinox shares the same 3.4 V-6 engine my old 2000 Pontiac Grand Am had. I liked the torque on the V-6 had when driving. The torque fell off around 40 mph and had to lift of the gas slightly and then accelerate for it to pick up speed quickly if needed. I have an 2007 CRV and the engine is definitely quieter. It took me a little bit to get used to the higher revving engine of the CRV. I am not one who likes to drive Lexus quiet type of cars, takes away from the experience in my opinion, so the extra grunt of the V-6 didn't bother me as some who like the Lexus quietness in their cars. There were some minor but annoying issues when my Pontiac went over 100.000 miles. I don't expect the CRV to have the same annoying issues. The CRV should stay out of the shop more often than the Equinox.

I think I read in Consumer Reports that the Equinox was especially lousy in reliability, one of the worse in GM's line.

Caution! I detect in you the enthusiam and idealism of the young. Be careful trying to change people's minds. Present your case but do not convince. Let them decide for themselves. It is their money. If they follow your advice and don't like the vehicle, you will never hear the end of it. The Equinox is bigger and more powerful and that could be more important to them than reliability or fuel economy. Sometimes it is best to keep counsel with yourself.

Well if they want to be in the shop all the time and paying at the pump the Equinox is the way to go but I don't think they want a CR-V and the worst is buying a car and trying to convince yourself that you like it The Toyota highlander has a v6 and some nice features, really the japaneese make the best all around SUV's for the $ American onesare built badly plus they cant get any power from their engines and cost a lot anyways, Germans don't do the off road tough guy thing plus they are pricey I would recommend german cars for sedans and higher speed SUV's i.e. X5, Q7, M class, etc. But those are a significant step up from the equinox. Try to convince himthat Asian is the way to go for SUVs (truthfully it is I don't like Japaneese sedans but the SUVs are as tough as nails) but if he gets the equinox you can say I told you so.

Show them the resale values and then add up the extra fuel costs. Take the amount of miles they drive per year and use $2.50 a gallon and $3.00 per gallon to show the difference in what they will save.

Since I prefer any Honda over any Toyota, don't forget about the Honda Pilot if they want a bigger engine.

THe equinox has hub caps and a disc drum setup I saw one at school today and took a look at it I mean my old van had better breaks and its 10 year's old ohh and actual rims plus the interior looks really chintzy I understand certain US cars i.e. the new Tahoe looks pretty cool and the Acadia seems nice, edge seems kind of interesting but the Equinox dosen't do it for me.
