On p. 284 of the Owner's Manual, it says to remove the antenna before using a "drive-through" car wash, however at tonight's "Chalk Talk" presentation at the dealer, the specific question came up, and he said "Naw, don't worry about it". Said he had only seen one instance where the roller came right down on it and just bent it a bit. Just wondering what anyone else's experience with these mast-type (I think that's what they're called) antennas' durability is.

I usually take mines off, but one time I forgot, I'm glad it didn't break or anything. I took it to a regular car wash too. I guess the dealer is just suggesting to take it off to avoid breaking but it doesn't mean that it will break easily if you leave them on while going through a regular car wash.

Let me start with that I don't like taking my CRV to any car wash. Since my area is in a drought and to have the water recycled, I only take my CRV to a brushless car wash. I don't worry about the antenna being ripped off by the brushes. Also, there isn't a chance that any lingering dirt on the brushes themselves buts small scratches in my car's paint or clear coat. Can't wait until they lift the voluntary water restrictions in my area so I can give my CRV a proper cleaning.

Ain't this the guy or gal who didn't know what the plastic thingies were, body plugs? What body plugs? and the motor home towing VSA debacle.
I have a simple test. Ask your dealer that in the unlikely event that your antennae would break if you follow their wisdom, profound as it is, will they give you a new antennae and repair any possible body damage incurred? If they will, get it in writing, notarized, and frame it on your wall.
1. I agree with 07CRVOWNR about staying away from car washes, especially those with brushes.
2. I agree with the owner's manual, that if you are going to such car washes, remove antenna. It takes 5 seconds. It just threads out. (The wisdom of doing that many times may be questionable--again see note 1).
3. Discontinue listening to just about anything your dealer has to say. They seem to suffer from constipation of the brain and diarrhea of the mouth.
Asside from that, how are your little plastic thingies? You need to post a picture so we can all enjoy them.
Edit: I forgot about the notorious scrawing out 87 and writing in 85 octane in your owners manual. Somebody really needs to smack your dealer, they are so FOS.

So, let's come to closure on some and then I have a treat for you. A picture of the thingies! I might even sell them to you!
VSA debacle - yep, Dealer is FOS. I never should have even entertained their idea. I will speak to this no more.
Antenna - Dealer is just speaking to their experience. They actually provide a brushless carwash free of charge which is a very nice convenience and since nothing can touch the antenna I can save the minute it would take for me to unscrew and rescrew it. What he said was that he's only seen one damaged antenna from a car wash, so in his mind, that was, "Don't worry about it". In my mind, that's "Worry about it - but if in a weak moment, me or my wife find ourselves in an automatic car wash and we've forgotten to remove the antenna, I won't go into cold sweats, as I'll know that there's a good chance I'll not have damage.
Body Plugs - I think you should have these. There are two holes in the front portion of your frame rails which are "tie-down" holes used during transport of your V from whatever country it comes from to you. I'm envisioning like big hooks on chains that get cranked down and hold the vehicle tight. Without the plugs, water, mud, salt, mag chloride, debris, etc. have an entry point into your frame. So...plug it up. The plugs are rubber oval-shaped grommets, and I feel better having them in there now. I was told by a tech at the dealer that a lot of techs don't put 'em in because it can be a pain to get them to fit properly, so instead they just don't do their job, and leave them out. That's what happened to me the first go round.
87 vs. 85 Octane - I think the dealer is FOS and shouldn't even bring this up. Do they think it's giving them a competitive advantage by saving a few pennies at the pump for their customers?
Plastic Thingies - the picture is attached!!! And I already posted that I found out what they were. If you didn't see that post - take a guess!!!
OK, I can go on with my life now!

Not since moon caps in the 50's have I seen an automotive accessory this cool. I thought you were going to mount them on your plate? In any event, such plastic thingies are far too cool for an old fuddy duddy like me. If you are not going to put them on your V, then by all means put them on Ebay. They are priceless heirlooms.

I dont take my V through the car wash often, as I prefer to wash it myself, but when I do I dont take the antenna off. So far no problems.
