View Full Version : Adjusting Emergency Brake
Does any one know how to adjust the emergency brake cable on a 2004 CR-V? I looked underneath the vehicle but could not find the adjustment for the cable.

I don't know if it's the same as a 2005, but on the 05, you slide the driver's seat all the way forward and pull the carpet up to expose a plastic "box". Remove the plastic cover and you'll see the single cable coming from the e-brake handle and the two cables coming from the rear wheels, attached together by a bracket of sorts.
1) Remove the return screen from the bracket
2) Get the back wheels off the ground (jack stands).
3) Pull the parking brake lever out one click.
4) Adjust the adjuster nut on the end of the single cable until you can feel the rear brakes start to drag when you turn the tires.
5) Release the parking brake and verify the brakes no longer drag.
6) Reinstall the return spring and the plastic cover under the driver's seat and put the CRV back on the ground.
I don't know that much about brakes, I'm just looking at the service manual and trying to paraphrase what they say in their instructions. I'd scan the page for you, but my scanner isn't functioning this morning for whatever reason.
Hope this helps....

JB, Thanks I will have to check that out. The 2005 should be the same, I think the 05 and 04 are the same mechanically.:)
