Hi guys -
picking up a my new CR-V tomorrow - Silver 2007 LX 2WD.
I have driven a RAV4 for the last five years and it had an auto-dimming mirror with compass on it. I'd like to add one to this, but the Honda-installed price is way too much...I saw that I can get the Honda mirror online as well as the Gentex K21 auto-dimming mirror with compass and temperature.
Any thoughts on which one would be better? If I get the Gentex one, will a Honda dealer still install it, since it's not the Honda mirror?
anyone out there with the Gentex one? If so, where did you get it installed?
thanks in advance for your help, I'm totally psyched I'm getting the car tomorrow!

Look on the HandA website, they post installation instructions for the Honda mirror. I decided I could live without it after looking at the instructions.
Couple of thoughts which may be baloney, but...
If you are getting an extended warranty, I believe the Honda mirror would be covered. (Not sure if you install it yourself.)
The dealer probably will not install an aftermarket mirror unless they sell them because they don't want to be caught up in the "what if it don't work". If they do, they probably will not guarantee the job. If they damage the mirror installing it...too bad.
Congratulations and good luck with your new purchase and welcome to the club.

I don't think the Honda mirror has the compass. It does have homelink and autodim though. I would suggest the following:
1. Go to http://www.collegehillshonda.com/honda_crv_accessories/07_08_crv_interior.htm
This link will lead you to a video of the install. It may look difficult, but I think it is more time consuming than anything else, really not that hard, but well worth a look.
2. If you want to save $$, do it yourself, if NOT, just have the dealer do it.
3. If you want the compass version try here:

Again, it will take some work, the install would be pretty much the same I would think, BUT you get the compass too.
Good Luck!

PS: MY MISTAKE, The Honda one DOES have a compass! so cool, now you have two choices..

thanks for your advice! I picked up my V today! Woo hoo! LOVE IT!
As for the auto dim mirror / compass, I've had one for years on my 2002 RAV, and now that I'm officially a Honda CR-V driver, I'm already missing it.
I will definitely look into after-market stuff, consider warranty consequences, and let you know what I did!
