I've read many posts relating to the poor quality of the Metra dash kids for installing an aftermarket radio. I believe that is what Crutchfield offers. I see that Scosche also makes a dash kit. I'm wondering if anyone has compared the two of them side by side, or if anyone has any experience with the Scosche kit?

I've got an 07 CRV EX, so that's what I'm particularly interested in knowing about.

Thanks.

i work with metra dash kits on a daily basis. they are very good kits. and for the most part, metra is the first company to make aftermarket dash kits for new vehicles. i'd suggest them.

I have the Metra and although it fits and looks fine, it only has lower mounting holes to fasten into the dashboard. The factory "frame" is fastened to the dashboard with four screws - two top, two bottom. With the Metra, if you grab, say the volume knob, or place your hand in the lower storage compartment (if your aftermarket unit is a single DIN mount, it's very easy to flex the entire mount forward. Also, would assume the electronics are more susceptible to bumps, etc. It's a particularly stupid design, considering the fact it couldn't cost more than a couple of pennies to form the mold so the top has mounting tabs that would accept the factory screws and thus be able to fasten the new frame at the top, in addition to the bottom. From what I can see of the Scosche unit, it has four mounting holes. And from past experience with Scosche, would recommend that mounting frame over the Metra. To prevent my Metra unit from flexing, I placed a custom-size wedge along the top of the new Alpine unit (but this does place a bit of unwanted downward pressure on the Alpine unit and the Metra frame), so it needs to be done carefully.

Again, as long as the Scosche unit has the top and bottom mounting tabs, I'd buy that unit in a flash.
