Just bought an 06 SE and it is all set up for XM, but my question is, how set up is it?

I have the antenna on the roof and supposedly its all wired and just needs the XM box itself. I avoided the dealer which has a $400 + price tag for the unit installed.

Is it cheaper to go to a place like BestBuy, Circuit City or Tweeter an have them put the box in? I'm sure there have to be some kind of new subscriber specials or something like that.

Anyone have more details??

You better look into this further. The vehicle is 'XM Ready'. That's all. Nothing is installed, but it's easier to install. Have you added the antenna? What comes standard is just a cover.

Go to your dealer and ask exactly what you need. Then go to a car audio place and compare their prices.

Take a look at the accessory XM radio installation instructions from the H&A site. This should give you an idea of what's necessary if you decide to have the remainder of the "factory" XM radio installed in your CRV.

Click for XM Radio installation instructions. (http://www.handa-accessories.com/crv/05CRVXMINTER.pdf)

I did this install myself. If I had to do it over again, I may have paid to have it done. It's kind of nerve-wracking to have your new vehicle this far disassembled if you aren't used to doing this type of work.

Ok, so they mounted a cover and a wire cover but there is nothing inside? I wonder why they would even bother. I guess I'll have to inquire with the dealer as to what is exactly installed.....

The biggest advantage to the factory XM setup is that, once installed, the radio head-unit will control everything.

Most of the aftermarket adapters I have seen send the XM signal through the CD changer input...not quite the same thing...

Still, I have seen Sirius /ipod controllers hidden in the CD storage area just below the radio, not a bad install...

I got XM installed when I bought my CR-V and love the integration and ease of use...especially from the steeering wheel controls. I have had the "add-on" models in other vehicles and regretted the look and the requirement to stick a cassette into my factory radio. If I had opted for a hard-wired model the cost would have been cpmarable to the factory.
My ONLY disappointment is the factory subwoofer under the seat. It is still a poor stereo system compared to the Element system. I am considering upgrading my speakers and adding an amplifier.

By the way...the price of the install into a new vehicle is a negotiable point between you and your sales person. I also recommend offering what you want to spend for the upgrade and work hard to get the sales staff to agree with your offer.

Can someone give me an estimate of what it cost to get a dealer to install a xm unit? What is the cost of a factory xm unit? Thanks Dairel

The cost for the whole kit was $400.00 and the dealer quoted me $400.00 to install. I went to an audio installation business and they said $150.00 to install. I did it with my wife reading the directions and helping. It took 4-5 hours.

Would it be about the same for a 2007 compared to a 2006? Do you have to replace the entire radio, or just add the xm unit? Wheres the best place to buy a xm for a 2007? Thanks Dairel
