99 v ex has black painted chrome belt trim outside all 4 door windows, the black paint is peeling off
should I just use like some steel wool and take it all off, i wouldnt mind chrome, plaus IMO it should not be painted just for the reason, its hard to make paint stick

I pulled mine off, lightly sanded and sprayed with a paint I got from an auto paint supply store (about $4 a can) with a name like "Back to Black", in a satin finish. Do not use a gloss, shiny finish. It will not look right.
They are very easy to remove. Open the door. There is a phillips screw to remove and then they pop out. They are help in place with plastic clips. Do this when warm out or in a warm garage as if the clips are cold, they may break.

Found it.
This shows the door trim and roof trim, but you can see how it comes off.

I've got the same issue. The black rubber/paint isn't all of yet; is there some liquid that I could soak them in to aid in the removal of the paint?
