On 2007 there are 5 latch points in the back. In order to install the infant seat at the center, the manual says to use the center one and the inboard right hand side one. The only problem with this is it makes the right back seat very narrow and the infant seat is not centered. Any one skip the center latch and just use both inboard left and right seat latches? that would make the baby seat center and both outboard seats usable. Is it ok or is it a safety issue? Some people said the seat structure might be designed to take the load that way but the only reason I can see is to make the left back seat foldable with the baby seat installed.
I would rather they switch the 60-40 split from right to left since we prefer the right back seat to be usable in US. I guess Honda keep the same rear seat same globally but design them based on Japanese usage which the curb side is at the left. Just like the tailgate of Gen1/2 CRV.

However, I don't believe it to be a Japan thing for the rear gate opening. I used to have a 99 Isuzu Trooper and it opened the opposite way from the first gen's! I recall all kinds of Trooper owners on forums decrying that it opened that way! You can't ever please everyone...

I can't imagine an issue with using the two inboard ones if you've only got one child seat.
as long as you're not using the same latch point to attach 2 seats, it should be fine

when i fisrt got the V for the wife, i installed the big britax seat in the middle using the inside latch points on the left and right side...this centers the seat. my thinking behind it was if my little girl sat in the middle, she would have the best protection in the event of a side-impact. then i read the manual coz i was trying to figure out how many car seats you can have in the back. turns out with the car seat config stated in the manual enables you to have up to three kids in the back...middle goes in the middle latch points as stated in the manual......another britax can fit comfortably behind the driver seat using the latch points......the rightmost seat can fit a bigger kid who doesn't need a carseat....a small booster can also fit. this setup works well for me when i have my 3 year old girl in the middle, my 2 year old nephew behind the driver, and my other 7 year old nephew belted in properly on the right side. as far as protection is concerned...if something goes through the windshield, my daughter would be somewhat protected by the passenger side headrest. the sides are taken care of by the side curtain airbags :D
i recently bought a Sunshine Kids Radian car seat for my other car.....it's narrower and more upright than most carseats but plenty of room for my toddler. the sinshine kids have built-in side impact head protection in the form of foam-padded aluminum "wings". three of these Sunshine Kids Radian car seats can fit in the CR-V!
