Just found out that front and rear skid plates were offered on Canadian, Gen 2, CR-Vs. Does anyone know if they are available in the US? Looking for both front and rear skid plates for a 2006 EX.

Did you ever find out anything about this? I'd love to get a set for my 2002 if they will fit.

I have never seen them.....I will look at my books again. The last one i have seen was for the 1997-2001 Crv's.
I just went thru all my accessory guides for 2002-2006 and the is no mention of skid plates for any of those years.

i've seen them (front and back) on crv's driving around on our local roads. all the ones i saw were all top of line models.

The Canadian 2006 Crv SE had these from the factory. I looked at the 2006 EX/EXL's we have on the lot and they don't have them.
They are only plastic trim. Not anything i would call a skid plate.

if they're only plastic, it's more cosmetic than anything.
so... just paint that area silver and leave the rest of the bumper black and you got yourself a skid plate. probably cost less than $30 for front and back. :D

Lizzurd, if you find anything out about a gen 2 skid plate, front or rear, let me know. That link that was posted really only looks like a bumper with an extension to me.

i can take a picture of the skidplates on my truck if you want to see real ones, i can tell you now thats just all for looks. i know first generation CR-Vs had a factory optional skid plate, but some dispute that it was too weak to be for anything besides stones, and astetics.

the article defintely mentioned "skid plates".

i could be wrong, but the bumpers look different on the lower part. unless the 02's have them, the 06 definitely wont fit the 02.

between 2002 and 2006 there was a mid-generation "facelift" that included some trim changes and such, it was aptly called the generation 2.5, now without looking at one in person, im sure the dimensions are similar but they could not be exactly the same.

I owned a lifted 93 Grand cherokee and have been four wheeling for many years, I know what real skid plates are. I was simply looking for any sort of metal protection to go beneath the car. My friends and I do a lot of back country sports and many of the roads getting back into the mountains where we go are very washed out and messy. I've already heard the crv scrape a bit here and there, though so far i've been lucky. I was really looking for something of basic protection, is all.

saw this one for 02 to 04 supposedly. made of aluminum.

i saw a few places online (all UK) that have aluminum skid plates for 02+.
question is if whether they will fit north american 02 crv.
you may also want to check ebay (asia - HK, philippines, taiwan, etc.). they usually have these things.
check here: http://craversclub.com/ worth a try.

I took a look at the CRV we have on the lot with these "skid Plates". They are merely plastic trim pieces that even if they were made of metal would offer no protection at all due to the height they sit at.

If you really want protection. I'd consider getting under the car, looking for good, hard mounting points, then making some measurementsand having your own skid plates made. A good machine shop with a press brake and tubing bender should be able to put something together. Then just have it sent out for powdercoating. Be sure to leave a few holes to allow water to drain... and place any square or round tubing supports on the underside.
That's what I would do.
Small machine shops love taking on little proejcts like that, and will probably charge around $50/hr + materials.

i understand your need, i was just trying to state that they are not good for anything besides looks, if you want real protection, just get some fabricated.

My 97 has a bashed in "skid bar" so I removed it. I have a plate for a 99 Cherokee I sold, and it protects from the front differential to behind the transmission.
This is a picture of it...

Of course, the CR-V is a totally different set up but if I can get it to work it will make the underside indestructible.

I might just use some stuff from the local home improvement store to make one. It would be cool if I could figure out how to make one and make a kit. There's obviously a demand. I wish I had a welder...
