Here are my boys. Trevor, our Olde Boston Bulldogge, turned two in December. We're not sure how old Carlos is (we got him from a family who didn't take very good care of him, and didn't know too much about him), but we think he's about three and a half. And yes, I realize that Carlos isn't a dog. He's a Quaker Parrot. But he's a big part of our lives too, so why shouldn't I include him? :D

Here are some photos of my birthday boy, Seamus (1/18/06) . . . he's an incredibly smart companion and gets along great with my two sons. He's not the typical "velcro dog" that I read about in Vizsla books and forums although he does consider himself a lapdog (a 65# lapdog to be exact!!!)

I hope you enjoy the photos!

This is Hayden. We've had her a little over a year. She's a rescue so we're unsure of her bloodlines, but we're guessing she's a Bullmastiff, Lab, & Pit combination. She's five years old and a little over a hundred pounds. She is a wonderful dog - very smart, loyal, and happy. She's got a fierce bark, but ultimately she's just a big baby. She's completely unaware of her size, and is convinced that she makes an excellent lap dog; she is terrified of our three cats (see, e.g., the second picture of her below); and she eats endlessly! She loves car rides & jumped in the back of my CR-V as soon as I brought it home from the dealer & opened the hatch!

Great pics. I like them all.

Just posted some pics of a cargo liner I bought to make my life with Layla a bit more tolerable. Here are some pics of her. She is a Walker Hound, a cross between Fox Hounds and some unknown indigenous American dogs. She is built for speed and has an operatic bark. She is sweet and gentle but always alert for something to chase.

Here she is with Itachi-san checking things out at a wild horse reserve.

This is my sporty little jack russell. If you are at home in the driveway he will not get out of the car. He thinks that you are going to go somewhere without him. He will sit in the car for hours, just waiting for the next adventure. If you try to reach in and get him out he growls and hops over to the other seat so you can't reach him. Bugger! This is the funniest dog I have ever owned. I love him to death.

Here's Boomer, my 10 yr old yellow lab. He's 1 year post-op unilateral tie-back for laryngeal paralysis. He LOVES the CR-V, it's much easier for him to get in and out (our previous rides were pickups), but he doesn't like my conversation mirror, he thinks I'm spying on him . . . .

The pit bull is cute. I hate it that this breed is often "bred high" for fighting. They can be great family and companion dogs.

And I like Jack Russels very much. There my be one in my future.

And seeing MoMo, Lucky and Boomer reminds me of my dog Layla's favorite buddies. They are labs (one looks a lot like Boomer). Layla doesn't like to swim so she lets Jim and Maggie go after the toys in the water. She will stand on shore barking and often they take to toy to her instead the human who threw it.

And of course she loves car rides. If I'm getting ready to go out she watches me carefully. As soon as I slip on my shoes she goes to the door. If I touch the door knob without putting her on her leash first, she growls and barks at me like she does at the mailman.

They are endearing, eh.

Now if I can just find a way to work in the story abut her going "on point" for a cement deer....

Bonswa93,
I won't burden you yet with the story of Layla and the cement deer, just wanted to respond quickly to your post about Gus quartering.

I haven’t hunted in years. But some people like to take their hunting dogs to the field and let them work in much the same way as they would if actually hunting, only no game is killed. Around here these folks refer to themselves as “chasers”.

Layla and I are infrequent chasers. But she as never been trained so she does not exactly “quarter”. But she does canter back and forth in front of me with her head in various positions, stopping periodically to sniff at the ground. Usually she just canters and sniffs but sometimes she explodes into a dash. Usually it’s a raccoon and she trees it and barks (very pretty bark) until I catch up with her and take her away from the tree.

I don’t know how the coon feels about all this, but Layla seems to like it and I certainly enjoy it. As I say I no longer hunt but I still think that watching a hunting dog at work is a beautiful sight.

My little girl loves looking at the doggie pics in this thread. So, I figured we should post a pic too. This is Sonic (left) and Missy, our papillons. They're not as serious as they look in this pic, so if I find some other good pics I'll post again. They haven't been in my V much because unlike most dogs, they hate riding in the car. Mostly my older dog Sonic hates it, but his anxiety tends to transfer to Missy when they are in the car together and she gets nervous too. I tried all the pet psychology tricks to acclimate him to the car, but to no avail. At this point, I just put him in the car as little as possible. At least he hasn't thrown up in there the last few times I drove to the vet. If he ever pukes in my V, he might be placed on the papillon rescue club website :D

My Mom still cries over him today, even though she has the following guy in her life:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/My03Tundra/Family%20Pets/RamboPuppy.jpg
That little brat is Rambo, and a needy, clingy, loving little mess. He wants to be near people but doesn't necessarily need affection. Weird.

And this old girl in the next picture is Sparkle. She was rescued on the 4th of July from the roadside four years ago. We looked to see if she had a family, but no one answered. We are very thankful for that as she helped us get through the loss of Mowgli back in 2006.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c144/My03Tundra/Family%20Pets/IMG_0658.jpg

Of all of the dogs, Mowgli was the only one who LOVED to travel and go for rides in the vehicles. Rambo gets car sick, and Sparkle starts to panic.

Here's my dogs. I had 4 until this last year, we lost one to seizures and one to cancer. But here's my girls. The black lab is Lacy and the Staffordshire Terrier is Lucy.

Lucy was a rescue that I got from my mom. They found her at a ballgame with a choker chain embedded in her neck where she was growing as a puppy and whoever had her didn't replace the chain. So either she escaped or they just let her lose, we will never know. But anyways, my mom took her to the vet to have the chain surgically removed and after healing, she came to live with us. We live in the country so they all have a nice home now.

Why do you teach your dog to swim without being in the water physically showing him how to swim? This is madness.

its how my family taught me, i picked his ass up and threw him in

i mean i can swim better then a fish, i have always lived with water in my back yard, so apparently the sink or swim approach works lol
