Hey all,
I was looking to buy Body Side Moldings online and having my local dealership install them and just charge me labor. Are there any pitfalls for doing this? Will they not guarantee the installation? Also how much do you think the labor would be to do this?
Thanks!

Thanks! I would ask the local dealer first if they will do it. I doubt they will.

As long as they are Honda mouldings i can't see why a dealer wouldn't. We install parts for customers all the time that supply their own parts. Its easy money for the service dept and by turning down a request like this can cost the dealer future business if a customer decides to take his maintenance and warranty work else.
I just bought some from HandA and installed them last Friday on my new '07 EX-l. The install is realtively simple and takes only a short time. The molding comes with pre-installed 3M style tape. Here's my suggestion if you choose to install them yourself:
Contrary to the printed instructions provided (measuring from the plastic fascia up 83MM, etc.), I followed the formed edge of the sheet metal and affixed the four molding pieces using the top of the formed edge as a guide. (You'll notice that the top of the plastic fascia at the bottom of the front and rear door door is not precisley even--which is why I opted not to use this point to measure).
I examined several photos of the installed moldings on a couple of Honda websites to see how the finshed install is aligned. I used pieces of masking tape to align the molding against the door prior to removig the 3M tape backing. The molding simply runs straight across, along the formed sheetmetal edge. (Using a straightedge guide helps assure the pieces are level). The finshed product looks great and will hopefully provide some protection from door dings and scrapes...

The problem is that they would not guarantee the install - or even to your satisfaction. If they sold them, they would be willing to guarantee it.
Many times, people who do not have the skills, tools, time or even proper warm garage (as in winter) will get an independent mechanic to do installs like this for them. However, they won't give you a flat rate, in advance. They generally chrarge you by the hour as they may not have ever done that particular install before and do not know of any pitfalls or shortcuts.

A Honda dealer should be well versed in the installation of a genuine Honda part, and as such, should know exactly how much to charge.
My guess, the dealer will have no issues, as he'll charge you a hour's worth of labor, and eliminates the need to wait or special order the side moldings.

I am thinking of dong this when my brake pads go it may be cheaper depending on how much pads go for or how much my mechanic will charge although it seems like an easy job if you know what you are doing.
