hey I've got an issue with my suspension... front driver's side coil... I bought it unknowingly with a crack... a large crack near the bottom, one ring up... a crack large enough that the last chunk of coil is actually unseated and resting above the rest of the coil.

obviously it has it's creaks and what-not, but I haven't noticed any performance deficiencies, even after a little off-roading and a cross-canada road-trip. My mechanic says that it technically could last that way forever, or fail at any moment.

by fail, what exactly could happen?

how much might it cost to get the suspension redone? (I presume you need to get at least the front two replaced at the same time)

and I was considering upgrading to a decent set of more off-road worthy suspension someday... has anyone done this?

thanks.

Lots have upgraded (lifted) their 1st gen V. However, there do not seem to be any manufacturers still making "kits". I would try local truck (as in big truck) spring shops and ask if they will make you a set. Coil stock is relatively cheap.
Local import tuner shops or muscle-car restoration shops may also do it.

yea so I uploaded a picture of the coil. the thing is, I hear that the process of lowering a vehicle is actually by cutting coils? that being said, does that instill confidence in my current coil status?

The cheapie way to lower a vehicle is to cut the coils. The proper way is to get shorter coils that have higher spring rates, otherwise you are going to have issues with bottoming out.
