Bought my 2008 CRV in January and was told to wait until the service light (little wrench) comes on before taking it in for an oil change. My husband is from the old school and says oil should be changed at 4,000 miles at the latest. I now have 7,500 miles and the percentage is down to 30 per cent. The dealer insists I wait until it tells me to have it serviced. Will I be OK? It may be next year sometime before it reaches 10 per cent. Thanks

Follow the indicator on the dash and you will be fine. Older Hondas without the maintenance minder system had 1 year/10,000 mile oil change intervals.

There are those of us out here that change oil and filter every 3000 miles. Guess whos engine will last longer one that changes every 3000 or the 7500 mile changers?

You, however, will have a slimmer wallet from all of those unneeded oil changes. We already know that the Honda engine, when given 10,000 mile oil change intervals will outlast the transmission, so why not spend more effort on the tranny and stick with the 7500+ oil change intervals? What's the point of extra oil changes if the rest of the car won't make it as far as the engine?

Changing the oil every 3,000 miles is madness.
In the UK, the service interval is 12,500 miles. Many manufacturers with variable service intervals can go up to 20,000 miles between services.
The most highly tuned vehicles (like a 600cc Jap bike or Mitsubishi Evo) only need changing every 4,000 miles.

My Accord does 600 miles on one tank of diesel. Changing the oil every 3,000 would be just five tanks of fuel. Oil would be about 20% of the running cost!

You guys in Europe have it right! There is no need to change oil every 3000 miles (5000 KM). It is a wasteful practice.
