Hello all!
Well I recently purchased a 2006 CR-V and absolutely love it. I would like to get a hitch style bike rack. I am thinking about the Yakima Hookup (http://www.yakima.com/Product.aspx?id=29) type of rack but not sure if I will be able to put 2 bikes on there with the spare tire also there. Do you know anything about this? I read somewhere that it will probably not fold up because of the tire, but that doesn't bother me. I'm just not sure about mountain bikes fitting on it.
Thanks for your input!!

Oops sorry about this. I should have put this in the Racks category. . . Can't switch it now. :(

Due to the spare tire a hitch style rack may not be the best choice. With the distance the rack would have to stick out it would put a lot of strain on the hitch. A spare tire mounted rack may be the better option.

I have this rack from Performance Bike (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=22745&subcategory_ID=4411). (I got it for $119 in May '07. It mounts slightly higher by design for added ground clearance. It has been impressively strong and much less expensive.

Here is the link to the manufacturers website SportRack (http://www.sportrack.com/a30901).

The design makes it easy to mount the bikes – no overhead lifting or front wheel removal required
Rack folds up out of the way when not in use
Tilting base allows easy access to the rear of your vehicle
Powdercoated steel construction
Fits wheelbases from 17" to 58"
2-bike model fits either 2" or 1 1/4" hitches by use of an adapter sleeve

Thanks for the responses!! It looks like you have the 07 model which doesn't have the spare tire on back. I have a Performance Bike near my house so I will have to check out that rack and see if it would provide clearance. That looks like a good rack.

I have that same sport rack and I must remove the spare cover to carry two bikes. I have the hard cover so it might depend on which model CRV you got.

That looks like a good rack.

I do own an '07 without the rear mounted spare.

I have a Saris B.A.T 4 bike carrier for a 2" receiver I used when I had my Odyssey. It's very well made but isn't available anymore but check out this spare tire mount version (http://www.saris.com/p-238-bat-spare-tire-rack.aspx).

SportRack is owned by Thule. The quality of SportRack hitch is much better than the look-a-like Swagman hitch which is about the same price.
