I suppose it's time to introduce myself to the collective :D
I've just recently purchased a 97 4WD LX. A real cherry, with only 104k on it and every 15k service documented from the older lady who owned it before me for 10 yrs. It's my first Honda, even though I already own a Civic and Del Sol. Sounds strange, right? ;) The other two are my wife's (Del Sol) & daughter's (Civic DX). I trust both vehicles implicitly with the two most important people in my life, and I do all the maintenance on them myself, but I've always been a Jeep/VW guy for most of my life. That changed last week when I bought the CR-V. Now my driveway looks like a Honda commercial...
I really, REALLY like this thing! I've always preferred a more rugged vehicle, but as I get older I'm starting to appreciate a smoother, quieter ride on the highway. I'm certainly enjoying 22-25 MPG with a 2.0l 4, than the 16 MPG I was getting in the 4.0l I-6 in my Jeep. I'm a drummer by trade, and I have to be able to carry my kits around to gigs and sessions. That always had me in Jeep Cherokees (and some Chevy Vans back in the day :p). I really didn't see myself in a Honda, until I ran across a ridiculous deal on this V. I bought it knowing I could sell it for a profit if I didn't like it, but I can't see myself getting rid of this car anytime soon. It's enjoyable to drive, great on gas and all in all, I'm totally digging it! It really seems like the perfect vehicle for me.
So now I've ended up as the owner of an all-Honda garage, and I think I'm cool with that. Heck, it makes buying oil, filters, PS fluid, tranny fluid and all those other H-specific products a lot easier, since almost all is shared between the 3 cars, and I certainly appreciate the reliability and relative ease of maintenance on them.
My new-to-me V has only two issues that perhaps you guys can shed some light on...
My turn signals don't cancel
Power mirrors don't work
I've checked the fuses on the mirrors, they are on the same circuit as the Heater/AC relay, which is working fine. I pulled the fuse and it's fine. Are the mechanical switches prone to failure? I pulled it out of the dash and cleaned the contacts, but no dice. I noticed a switch for sale in the classifieds, seems like a simple fix if that's the problem.
I'm totally baffled by the signals. They worked great for the first 2 days I had the car, then suddenly stopped canceling after a turn. No click when the steering wheel spins back. I don't recall anything snapping or sticking, it just stopped one day when I got in the car.
Anyways, glad to be here... Thanks for any help on my two little issues. Other than those two things (well, and the OEM CD player/stereo sucking all balls) I have nothing but praise for the new wheels!!
Take it easy,
MG
