Hello CRV fans  ,

I own a 2008 CRV and read through the factory service manual (1200 pages), and everywhere Honda refers to their HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) to retrieve DTC codes and do some tests. This device/software is $2,000 an way too expensive for DIY. Is there any other device that would be compatible, even if it only retrieves DTC codes and that would be less expensive ?

Thanks,

Check with your local auto parts store for a OBD-11 scan tool....if all you want is to be able to read codes you should be able to get one for a reasonable price.

Harbor Freight has one on sale right now for $39.99. Since all obdii scanners do basically the same thing - read a code, why purchase an expensive one?

Just to build on that,

The cheap code readers will tell you the code then factory manual will tell you the specifics of what the codes mean. You already have that part of the equation, right?

Many folks love the Scanguage which can be used as a gauge too.
