Anyone have a great solution for dog barriers and/or cargo liners? We have two labs and are a bit overwhelmed by the choices in pet containment. Thinking of a wire barrier and either a cargo liner or a large travel crate. Looked at wire barriers in Cabelas as well as net barriers which don't look adequate for active large dogs, but we are worried about the expandable wire barriers damaging the interior. Also looked at cargo liners by Hatchbag but no decisions yet. Confused by all the choices out there and would really appreciate advice from someone who found a good solution. Thanks.

I have a generic type, purchased from PetSmart a couple of years ago, for something like $59. It is an adjustable metal gate style. It will fit in almost any vehicle. I have a black lab as well. It can make small indentations in the headliner, but I feel, if someone later on doesn't buy a used vehicle due to that alone, I could care less about trying to sell it to them. I bought the vehicle to use it, not save it for someone else. That being said, I do keep all of my vehicles (currently 5) in very nice condition - but I use them as I need to.

Thanks RedV's. I'll try Petsmart too. Do you have trouble with rattles with the metal barrier? I'm kind of sensitive to those type of noises, especially in a new vehicle. One of the reasons we were considering the net type barriers but I'm not sure they will be effective for two young labs.

I then clipped the extra part of the ends off. I also spray painted the shiny chrome parts black so I would have no distracting shiny stuff in my rear-view mirror.

I installed one from Petco a few days ago. It's made of flat black steel tubing and is fully adjustable with thumb screws and wing nuts. Not a rattle or a squeak has been detected. No tools needed to install.:)

I really enjoying motoring with my dog Layla but she sheds a lot and her hair seems to work itself deep into fabric and carpet. I tried various makeshift solutions with the 04 CRV. The best thing I came up with was to put the back seats down, spread a canvas painter's tarp over the cargo area and the carpeted backs of the back seats. It worked pretty well.
The day I got Itachi-san (my 08) I ordered a Hatch Bag from Orvis. Generally I'm pretty satisfied with it. It seems to be sturdy, impervious, and it protects more surfaces than any of my make shift efforts. My complaints are that it is slippery (for Layla), a bit looser than I thought a custom product would be, and initially hard to install.
The slippery part I solved by cutting cheap carpet to fit the outline of the "floor" of the liner-this worked.
Functionally the looseness has not been a problem but I still wish it fit a bit more snuggly.
The initial install took me more than an hour. A few days ago I took it out and put it back in less than five minutes. And it can be unhooked folded back (to raise the back seats) in seconds.
The only remaining complaint I have about installation is that the hooks that hold the sides in place over the wheel well have to be forced between the rear window trim and the window. It is scary to see the window and trim spread apart as the hooks are forced in. I think this part of the installation would be made faster and easier by Hatch Bag using a thinner hook.
My complaints not withstanding, I would buy another Hatch Bag. It is certainly keeping "Layla Hair" under control in the CRV. I wish I could say the same for my den.
Included a few pics. Hope they are self explanatory. The last one is of Itachi-san waiting patiently to make another trip to Home Depot.
Happy CRVing,
JPO
