I came across the following website while searching for extended warranties and was wondering if you guys think this is a gimmick or the real thing.

The website is www.honda-care.com. It's a Honda dealership located in Rochester, NY offering genuine Honda Care extended warranties. It also has an agreement with Signet Financial Group which is supposed to pay the full refund up to $3,500 if the warranty is never used.

The only way I can see someone losing out on this deal is if they are forced to use the warranty but get repairs done that are a lot less than the price they paid for the warranty. And with extended warranties available for $1,000 through them, wouldn't it make sense to drop a couple hundred bucks for a simple repair without using the warranty (is this allowed or do you have to report everything)?

Has anyone heard of anything like this before? What do you think?

It seems real because I don't think a dealership would put it's name on the line by trying to screw people over, but then how do they benefit from such a n agreement?

I got the 120000 mile 8 year Honda care warranty sold by Saccucci Honda in Middletown, RI on the net. At less than ½ the price my dealer wanted to sell me one. I called Honda warranty program to confirm It was the real deal and it was. I do not think extended warranties are for every one. I drive about 10,000 miles a year on average. And I keep cars for 10 to 12 years. So for me it is a good deal. It should be under warranty just about as long as I own it.
I would call the people involed and comfirm that it is a real deal.

I just received a $500+ refund last week for the HondaCare warranty I had on my '05 CR-V. I had purchased the warranty through the dealership, thinking that I'd be keeping the vehicle for at least five years. Instead, I got "new CR-V" fever and traded for an '08, purchased from the same dealer, and they arranged for the warranty refund. The only part of HondaCare that I used was the road service once. (For the '08, I purchased HondaCare through Saccucci. The selling point for me is the roadside assistance - the warranty didn't cost much more than AAA would be for five years. I received the paperwork about a week after purchasing and it's the same as my first warranty. HondaCare is HondaCare, no matter what dealer you buy from.)

Florida owners are prohibitted by law from buying an extended warranty from an out of state dealer. I don't know the details, and I don't know if that applies to third party extended warranties or just factory extended warranties.

I have taken up a 7/80k/0 Honda care service contract from this dealership in Massachusetts for $598.00. They are good. You will receive your contract # with in 20 minutes. Everything is done on line.

I always wondered what these warranties cover I mean for major stuff it is a good insurance policy but I would prefer a BMW type warranty with basic maint and most importantly free brake service.

I think it is a good deal if you are going to keep your car for 8-10 years. I don't think you can beat the price as offered by these online Honda dealers. Any major repair will far exceed the amount you pay for 8 years of security.

Well 6 years of security....we opted for the 6\120k as we put LOTS of miles on the vehicle. I think we will be over our mileage limit in about 4.5 years. BUT the piece of mind it gives my wife (the main driver) the better my life is! ;)

Just came across this at Honda Finanical Services web site:

"Washington residents may only purchase Honda and Acura Care service contracts for new and used Acura and Honda automobiles from Washington dealers and select dealers from contiguous states. Contact your local automobile dealer for details.)"

Does it mean I can only buy it from local dealer here in WA? Any past experience from WA owners?

The number for Claims and Customer Service from my HondaCare book is

1-800-999-5901

Why not call them and ask. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks.Tell your local dealer that you know that you can buy the same Honda Care warranty from another dealer and they are charging you $1200 less and that you will give them the chance to price match, forgiving them this time for trying to overcharge you.

This does not work for Florida residents...

While IANAL, I would that's exactly what it means. There are significant differences in the Washington and California warranties from the other states. Notably, it's not possible due to state regulations to purchase the Sentinel warranty in Washington, so no road hazard protection for us here. Washington has some very interesting state laws regarding warranties and insurance.

And yes, I'm certain that's why my 7y/120k/100 warranty cost nearly double what it would have cost elsewhere, but for me the inclusion of the roadside assistance and some basic worry-free driving made it worthwhile.

If so-called "extended warranties" (they're actually service contracts) helped the customers (on average) more than the selling company, they wouldn't be sold. One other thing ... before buying an "extended warranty" read EVERY word and make sure you understand every word. Especially pay attention to exclusions AND what you need to do (call the company for approval, etc) each time you bring your car in for repair.
