Forgive my ignorance, can someone tell me what this fluid is, and what the maintainace interval is for it. Thank you

It is for the rear differential on 4WD only. The interval on the 07 is up to the maintenance minder, subcode 6, but it appears to be about 15,000 to 20,000 miles from the early indications on posts here on the forum. Previous years Honda stated 90,000 (60,000 severe) in the owners manuals, but that was wrong. The common knowledge here on this forum was to change it at least 30,000. But again from a few posts, it looks like the interval on the 07 (and most likely 08) is around 15,000 miles.

In case I missed your 1st post..
Welcome to the forum! :)
Dual-pump fluid (the newest variant is called Dual Pump Fluid II) is a special formulation hydraulic fluid that is used in the rear differential/clutch pack. This fluid is what is inside the unit, which is driven by 2 hydraulic pumps, hence the term, Dual Pump. Honda has not released the specs on this fluid to the after-market so there is no substitution from the after-market. The fluid can only be purchased from Honda. Using any other fluid, such as gear oil, auto trans fluid, etc. can and probably will, damage the unit. The fluid change interval on your 07 on up will show up as a sub-code on the Maintenance Minder around 20k miles (near the second oil change) if I recall correctly.
The fluid can be easily drained and re-filled by ones self.

Has anyone done the change on the fluid themselves yet?
Any complications or is it really that simple (I have yet to even look myself)?
Also what does the fluid typically cost and how much do you need to do the job?

Haven't done it myself, others have and its easy.
According to TSB 07-024 1.3 quarts to replace. Thus 2 quart to replace, 3 quarts if you do a flush and fill.
HandA has the oil at $7.63 a quart, plus shipping. Normal Honda retail $9.78.

You must use the Honda Dual Pump Fluid.
EDIT: I forgot this: Somone (2RedVs I think) mentioned in one of the previous threads that it is a good idea to try to remove the fill plug before draining the oil. Apparently some are very tight and are difficult to remove. You don't want to get the oil drained and find out you can't remove the fill plug.

I think someone posted this earlier this year, but here is the text on the new Dual Pump Fluid II from the July 07 Honda Service News page 4.

New Dual Pump Fluid Is Here!
Currently Applies To: All models with Real-Time 4WD
EDITOR’S NOTE: In a June ’07 article, we told you
that Dual Pump Fluid II isn’t compatible with Dual
Pump Fluid. We were wrong. Make sure you discard
any hard copies you made of that article and use this
article instead.
Meet the new kid in town! It’s Honda Genuine Dual
Pump Fluid II (P/N 08200-9007, H/C 8632044). This
fluid is the factory fill for all ’08 CR-Vs and Elements,
but it’s completely backwards-compatible with all ’07
and earlier models that use the original Honda
Genuine Dual Pump Fluid (P/N 08200-9002,
H/C 6512644).
Dual Pump Fluid II—like the original Dual Pump
Fluid—offers these benefits:
• It meets Honda’s stringent quality standards
• It’s resistant to high-temperature breakdown
• It was developed in association with Honda R&D
Each Honda dealership was recently sent a case of
this new brew to accommodate the mid-June release
of the ’08 Element. If you need more, you can order it
from Honda parts stock. If you’re servicing ’07 and
earlier models, keep ordering and using the original
Dual Pump Fluid until Honda parts stock runs out
of it.

In light of the mistaken information presented in the June 07 issue of ServiceNews, it is a good thing emphasize.
I wonder if the new fluid will have a better life than the old. Those going to the dealer for a change may want to specify using the new fluid. HandA is carrying the new fluid according to their ad.

Couldn't possibly be easier, honestly.
It took me 15 minutes (maybe less) to do mine...

No, sleeksilver has a 2003...but I'm sure once you have done it once the learning curve is over. My tranny change out was easier on my gen 3 than the oil change.

If you want to do your own diff fluid change, you might want to consider the same type of fluid transfer pump that Honda sent to all the dealers. Kind of pricey, but the quality seems to be pretty good. P/N 07AAK-PGJA120 for the pump that fits onto quart sized bottles. The last time I checked with H and A, Trevor said he didn't stock them but was going to look into it.
These guys show it on the website if you do a parts search and put in the P/N.

I've never done business with them, so...

The maintenance minder on my '07 came on at 14,784 miles and indicated that I needed to change the rear differential fluid.
As Honda Tech posted a while back, the maintenance sub items are pretty much set around oil life and mileage for these sub items will change accordingly.
For example, if the oil life for my car didn't reach 15% until 16k, then I wouldn't have been notified of the rear diff sub item until it reached that point. There is a way to check the sub items before the oil reaches 15% but make sure you don't reset the oil life.
It's more of a convenience than anything else but it does follow a schedule.
Here's a better explanation by Honda Tech: http://www.crvownersclub.com/forums/t1766/

What code did you get? I presume B 1 6. B for the extensive check out or brakes, and boots etc along with the oil and filter. 1 Rotate tires. 6 for rear diff fluid change.
I am afraid to go bumbling around in the MMI in that I will undoubtedly reset the thing with my club fingered, where was I, stupidity.

Yes, I got B 1 6.
Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty difficult to accidentally reset it because you'd have to hold it down on the oil life menu for a few seconds to reset it.
To get to the sub items, just hold it down until you see everything blinking (about 5-10 seconds, never counted), then turn the knob until Oil Life is blinking, push down once, and that'll show you your oil life and sub items that will show up next time you hit 15%. This is the menu where you can reset your oil life.
If you want to reset it, you'll have to turn the knob until the oil life is blinking and then hold it down again for a few seconds. It'll reset after a few seconds.
If you just want to see what's listed and not reset it, turn the knob until Cancel is blinking and then press down once. This will take you out of the menu.
If you're still worried about resetting it early, make sure you mess around with it next time before resetting it. It'll teach you what you can and cannot do.
