Just bought an '01 CRV and I just removed a dealer decal from the body. Lots of old dirty sticky adhesive is on the paint. Does anyone know a safe way of removing this. Thank-you for your replies!

Try goo-gone or a label adhesive remover. Goo-gone should clean it right up.

From what I remember Goo-Gone is pretty powerful stuff. Find some unobtrusive place and make sure it is not going to remove more than the label adhesive especially if the surface is plastic.

Although you will need to wash the area after application, WD-40 does a nice job of removing those nasty bits of dealer advertisements. Thank goodness I bought mine out of state and they didn't feel the need to put one on the back of our CRV.

I have used goo-gone and 3m adhesive remover and never had a problem.

There is a new thread at the Element Owners Club on Goo Gone. Limited replies so far but it appears to work.

I was able to remove the sticky/dirty residue w/Goo-Gone Gel (Orange lookng fluid) w/no problem. Doesn't appear that the paint was affected at all. (Be sure to read the instructions.) Thanks for all the input. Bill.

It of course does take the wax with it... but then again, anything else capable would as well.

I just used regular lighter fluid. Got all the adhesive off and then I just waxed over the spot to clean it up. You can't tell there was anything there at all.
