View Full Version : Replace manual climate controls with automatic in my 08 EX

When I bought my CR-V about a month ago, I almost went with the EX-L, even though I hate everything about leather seats. I decided against it because the only feature that I truly wanted was the automatic climate controls. I don't care for heated seats that much and I don't want factory navigation because I know I'll add aftermarket anyway. The painted door handles are nice, but no big deal either. The power seat would be nice too, but again, no big deal. But after having the automatic climate controls in my wifes old 01 Odyssey, my old 04 Accord, and my wifes current 06 Pilot, I want them for my brand new CR-V (my first ever brand new car too). Does anyone have any information that may help me in trying to accomplish this. I know in some vehicles, you can just pop and swap the control panel and run the thermostat inside the car, others it is much more involved and requires reprogramming the computer or ever replacing. Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I recall some posts from people that wanted to do this when the 07's first came out (using the Acura module, I believe) and it was decided that it was way too expensive and involved.
Maybe this has changed?
My personal thoughts are that I could care less about having it. I drive a fair amount of rental cars for work and never seem to get the things to stay where I want it it anyway. I end up reaching for the controls more often on those cars with automatic controls. The extra complexity and cost to repair later on are also major downsides to it.

One shred of hope I have is now that it is offered in the 08 EX-L, it might be simpler that it would have been for the 07 owners where it was no option at all.

I have a 2007 EXL and would like to add automatic climate control if possible. Since the 2008s have it as an option, I've been wondering if I could have it added to my 2007. Does anyone know if this is possible?

The climate control module easily pops off and the electrical harness unplugs. I popped mine out when I put in the Honda rear bass amplifier/speaker system in.
I'm sure there is more to the system other than the control module, for example, the temperature sensor which is located at the base of the windshield in the center of the dash.
Whether that is easily wired is yet unanswered.

Someone would need to carefully look over the factory wiring diagrams and consult the Helms service manual for an 08, just to get started.

The sensor at the base of the windshield is the daylight sensor. The temperature sensor is located just to the right of the steering column under a small vanity plate with three horizontal slots in it.
You'd need both for certain before the auto climate control would function correctly.

I'm thinking you need the control unit, and a slightly different cockpit wiring harness to provide the proper place for the inside temperature sensors.
I think.
I'd really need the wiring diagram for the '08's to know for certain, but I do know the wiring harness for the dash etc is a different part from 07-08.
The control unit is:
79600-SWA-A41ZA.. and it'll run you about $450
Though visual inspection of the interior dash panel diagrams does not show me where/how any sensor is located.
It could be that the sensor is part of the control unit itself. Which would translate to just needing the $450 control unit.
If someone wants to donate one to me, I'll let them know ;)
