so i came back from a 3 day weekend. and someone keyed my brand new V. terrible huh? i just had it for about a month and it has already been attacked. i called the police and so I'm stuck with a police report and a 4.5 foot slash on my drivers side. I was thinking about taking it in to see what they can do about it. sigh... i think this is when a man can actually cry and not get laughed at. :(

If they didn't scratch completely through, you may be able to get it buffed out, which would cost very little. It all depends on how deep the keyed it. Either way, I'm sorry to hear about it :(.

there might be a slight chance you can get the scratch out depending on how deep it is...I once got a keyed up scratch out by using rubbing compound....however another time I tried using it it didnt work....

get some quotes on it if it can be just buffed out than you probably should fork the money over if its deeper though call your insurance your rates shouldn't jump as long as it was parked in a good neighborhood. Do you have any clue who may have done it perhaps some one you got in an argument with over a spot or a pedestrian? I seriously believe if you key a car you go directly to hell other things are bad but keying a car takes no balls at least other criminals have courage

i went back to the dealership and it cant be buffed out. yea... they wouldn't lie to me. my Aunt is the Body shop manager. but with her discount, it will be about $500 to repaint. funny thing, i was in La Jolla when it happened. it was pretty random. but it looks like I'm going to look around for someone to touch it up for now until i can fully repaint or just fork over the $500.

Just a thought but you might be better to wait to get it fixed.Maybe it was random or a jealous neighbour or because it is summer and the punks have nothing better to do?I live in a fairly peaceful community but in the summer when the kids are out of school thats when the vandalism picks up.I have a motion sensor light on my driveway but I am one of the lucky ones who has a garage and when I am not using my V she goes in the garage.I am sorry to hear about your trouble.

When we had our XB for about a year some jerk key scratched a 3.5-4ft scratch in the driver side headlight to halfway on the driver door; on it all the way down to the metal and it was a thick cut and my father used some touch up paint and fixed it you can still see the mark because the paint is not as bright, last year someone did it to my freinds Alero but the used steel cloth or something when he was at the Greek Festival and the wrote FU in big bold letters but he got some of it buffed out.

I hate the dealer's painters though. I got a whole car repainted for $550 and it was an SUV, and I had it ainted a different color than stock, and it came with a 6 year warranty against fading or de-glossing... and it never faded in the three years I owned it. That's what I'd call highway robbery... $500 for a key mark. I'm always paranoid about where I park my V and I make sure I can see it if I'm in a resturaunt, because I've had the rear window broken out, right in front of my house, and the people didn';t even steal anything. They just broke the window. $580 to replace.

I feel your pain bro.
I have a brand spanking new CRV that I've had all of 1 week in which I've tried to park in the furthest corners of all parking lots, made sure if in pinch I had to park - not to park beside a coupe (longer doors) or badly kept cars (if they don't care about theirs how in the hell do I expect them to respect mine) - well today I discovered an inch long deep ding above the back fender.
Why are people so inconsiderate.....makes me so mad but there's nothing I can do....today was the first time I doubted my decision to buy a new car ....should have just bought an old clunker so I wouldn't feel this rage if it got dinged/dented.......
So sorry....

I too feel your pain. A slightly different situation, but my 4-month-old CR-V recently took some moderate damage. As Tropical Storm Hanna was moving through, a tree branch broke off and landed right on top. Cracked the windshield, and put several dents on the top and the side, along with one hole. Nearly $4000 in damages, for a joke of a storm that, for the most part, didn't do a dang thing.

It's probably a Nissan Altima I had the same exact ding about 4 months ago I had a great day and popped into Taco Bell to grab lunch to go on the way to the office, I made perfect care that I was directly centered in my stall the SUV next to me was a little to the right and I could tell looking at the Nissan this guy was just a jerk (just had that look) I left TB parked at work went to leave and saw this thing on my right rear fender. The Altima's rear door sticks out sharply and is very long so it gives that distinct ding. I like parking next to SUVs because they tend to be more at level with the V and the farthest point usually connects with that black plastic on the door sedans have sharp rear doors
