I just recently purchased a boat that weighs roughly 2500 lbs. Now i know that is well over the max towing capacity but i will not be towing the boat on the road. My friend who went halfs on the boat with me has a Grand Cherokee V8 for that. The boat is going to be stored on land at a marina and i was wondering if the 05 V's would be capable of just moving the trailor with the boat on it from the spot where its stored at in the marina to the boat ramp which is probably no more than a block away. I obviously wont be going over 10 mph at the most. Im trying to figure out if my V could handle this very short distance with the weight of the boat and trailer. Need opinions of V experts! thanks so much

With just a quick use of the search function I found several threads that you should read regarding the towing of a vehicle. Also, you owners manual has very good data regarding how much weight you can tow.

I hope this helps. Nobody can tell you to tow more than your vehicle is rated for, this is a decision that you need to make after looking at the info above.

Just some extra info for what it's worth.
In Europe the 2.2l diesel is rated to tow 2000kg which is 4400lbs.
My boat weighs 1000kg, 2200lbs, and it tows this absolutely fine.
I wonder if the reason for the difference between US and European max towing weights is the gearbox - the diesel only comes with a manual - the petrol model comes in manual or automatic, but is rated much lower, about 1000kg, I think.
My Honda ball hitch attachment is very substantial - my guess is it weighs a good 100lbs on it's own. It is a quality piece of kit, and inspires confidence,
Also the 07 CRV is supposed to have some kind of trailer stability program, that can correct a weaving trailer, but I have never seen it function.

the weight of a boat does not include trailer, or gear(and beer) or fuel (est 6.lbs per gallon ),
so think about the load you put on the rearend gear to start moving the vehicle,
i broke a diff , trying to move a trailer a few feet onetime with a 3/4 ton truck

Welcome to the forum! :)
You opened up the rats nest with that one... :D
SEARCH towing Europe limits
I routinely use my 99 as a boat mover instead of my diesel truck since the little 99 is small enough to maneuver around inside my big shed whereas the truck is difficult to use in a more confined space. Let's just say one of the boats is way over your new boat weight. ;)
You will be doing something I don't and that is go uphill. You do have a bigger engine and more HP though. I need to put a hitch on my 04...

thanks for the advice from everyone!
i think i should be fine so long as i find a good hitch (and a class II at that) and just take it slow
i guess the day will come when boating season comes around this year ;)
thanks again,
chris

Get the Curt or Valley hitch, 2" receiver. They both bolt onto the rear subframe, and not the underside of the car body.
etrailer.com has a good selection. I bought mine there, including the wiring adapter.

installed hidden hitch today , exhaust with soap spray was not an issue, hitch bolted to frame with u-bolt through hook.
this class iii/iv 2" installed in less than 45 minutes with pic taking and cleanup.
also from etrailer - next up wiring harness.
