ok, so i've decided to either sell my 1999 CR-V, and buy a truck to mud in, OR get some parts together and assemble an awesome muddin' CRV.
here's why:
this CRV is stock (except new clutch at 200,000 miles, everything is ALL original), and recently, i took my CRV where most vehicles that mud on this particular trail (except ATVs) have to turn around, because of the size comparison of the trucks that bog in the beginning of the trail and my CRV, i can make it up the ATV part, except for one thing: MY GROUND CLEARANCE! so i need to know EVERYTHING i should do to make this a bad four-wheelin' machine! (i've been muddin' many a time on this trail, and just the other day...I GOT STUCK! and that was the worst experience i've ever had, so ANY and ALL suggestions will be appreciated!)
also, bear in mind the milage my CRV has is 270,277 miles, so it's gonna go eventually!
thanks.

Buy a Mercedes Unimog and attach the CRV on top of it ;) :D
On a more serious note, ground clearance is indeed a problem with the 2007 model too....

If you are after a serious off roading machine it is time to look at something else. The CRV doesn't have 4WD system designed for muddin or serious offroading. The other porblem is that there isn't an off the shelf lift kit. You would have to fabricate everything you need to lift it.

i agree with the post above mine. If you are serious about mudding (mudding is also one of my hobbies you could say) then get rid of the crv and buy a used jeep, pref a wrangler at that. They are not expensive at all and you can spend 3-4k in mods and have a very nice off roading vehicle. I have had my wrangler yj (86-94 models) for over 4 years now and i love it.
There is no lift kit that is made for the crv, unless it is custom. Another thing is the 4wd system. It is not capable of transfering power to the wheels like a normal 4x4 system, which is found in jeeps and alot of other vehicles.
Dont waste your money on makign the crv an off roading vehicle!
There are plenty of other vehicles perfectly capable with a few modifications. :D

well, the jeep wrangler is on the top of my list for trucks (i use the term "truck" for any vehicle i like-lol) my buddy has a wrangler that we take off roading, and so far my crv has gone everywhere in East Tennessee his Wrangler has. now i don't go through mud that requires 4 wheel low (since the obvious lack of that needed function), but neither does he. and actually, to kind of close down this thread, i saw a buddy today in wal mart with a dodge ram 2500 cummins diesel for sale--i'm buyin it...or a wrangler.
but after hittin the trail today (the trail goes from our barn to our pasture--so i hit it daily, and was built mainly for dirt bikes/4 wheelers-so it's pretty rough) i've decided to keep the CRV for use on the farm, either that or take it some rediculous place and just get it stuck, and tell people that for $500 they get 30 min.s to try to get it out, if they do, they can have it, if not, it stays...lol jk.

You should look up BDS suspensions...they used to make lift springs for the CR-V, but are now discontinued. I called them up about 3 weeks ago and they gave me the website and phone number of a company that works on ebay selling discontinued vehicle parts. When I called this company the guy I talked to was very nice and helpful..you have to hurry up because they only have 2 more sets of 2" lift springs. This sets are the only ones left on the world to my knowledge because nobody else is fabricating them. they cost about $335 with shipping and handling and arrive in 6 bussines days. They will lift the front of the V by 1.5" and the back by 2" to even it out.
