View Full Version : 07 CR-V Invoice/MSRP

Hello all, newbie here.
I will be purchasing a 2007 EX in the next few weeks and was hoping someone could provide some info regarding the Invoice/MSRP, their experience with negotiating a price, the price actually paid, etc.
I realize that some newly redesigned models are "hot" sellers where dealers are getting list price (or over) for them. Just wondering where to set my expectations when I begin the negotiation process.
Anybody getting Invoice or under?
NADA and Edmunds can't provide invoice number yet, the only thing I have to on is the 2006 invoice numbers.
Thanks for any advice.

I don't think you'll see anyone paying close to invoice (either above or below) for a while.

I agree, but I do have one dealership that may be offering some specials on the 07's. I'll call him today and ask.

Thanks guys, I was afraid of that.
I remember when I lived in Southern CA in the early ninties, the newly redesigned civic coupe had just come out, and dealers were asking (and getting) $1,500 over MSRP!
I don't begrudge the dealers for getting what they can due to market demands. If I have no leverage with negotiating the price, I'll just have to wait.
T Mac-
Thanks for checking, let me know what you find out.

The Dealer in NJ I went to I paid 500 Over invoice. but then again they are the 3rd Largest Honda Dealership in NJ so they say. They also had 20 new CR-V's when I went in to buy mine.

Were you able to find the invoice price somewhere before going to the dealership, or did they show the invoice?
What did you end up paying?
From the info I can find on the '06, invoice looks to be around 21,300 to 21,700 (depending on the source). I read somewhere that the '07s were only increased by about $300 over the '06s. That should put the '07 invoice around 21,600 to 22,000. I also realize that a car this new to the market can demand a price closer to MSRP or over.
Thanks

I just took delivery of a 2007 EX-L and paid MSRP. The dealer wanted $1500 above MSRP, but I had a competive internet bid from a nearby dealer at MSRP. After showing that to the dealer, they dropped the price to meet the competion. It pays to get competitive quotes in writing (email).

We paid MSRP for an EX-L. They moved 40 in three days.

I purchased a CR-V EX-L with no options for $27,500 out the door. That translates to $500 over invoice (according to the salesman, invoice is about $24,100 plus destination charge). MSRP including destination charge was $26,695, and the dealer initially wanted $1,995 over list. A little research on the internet goes a long way.

wife! After making several calls to dealerships, meeting salesman and reading this site, got a very good deal. MSRP $26,595 (includes destination charge) paid $24,945 + tax etc. $1,650 off MSRP. Take your time and be patient, not many will deal like this, but persistence will find you a good deal. ( I think invoice was $24,637

new CR-V owner... just picked up a EX-L w/ nav for $27,082 - $600 over invoice and over $1500 off MSRP. got 4 internet quotes and this was $700 lower than any of the others. getting the quote was the easy part, though. took them a week to track down the color combination we wanted.

...and paid $19,800. Seems like a pretty good deal for the L.A. area, so I was very happy. Internet research is changing the world. Such a great buy, my wife and I have just loved it!

I ripped this from another forum I participate in comparing the RDX and CRV EX-L with Navi.
Took the wifey to test drive an EX-L this weekend. She loves the CRV. Still not my first choice but I think she has made up her mind. She complained a bit about the engine noise during hard acceleration but I have heard the same about the RDX.
The dealer was a bit uppity about negotiating price. Seems like around here they seem to be in short supply. I offered them 26500 if they threw in the all weather mats and cargo tray plus ttl and was brushed off. I have done some internet shopping and have been given a low price of 26100. So I was thinking that # was pretty solid. The dealer told me they are selling theirs at MSRP and really didnt have to deal.
So looks like we may hold out for a while. I will try to sneak her into the RDX this weekend.
Anyone been able to confirm what the true invoice is for an EX-L w/ Navi?

Shoot, if they got an internet quote of 26100, with or without destination, that is pretty good.

That was really my question is that a really good deal? Based upon my math I think it can had for a bit lower but I was shocked that the dealer I visited this weekend scoffed at my offer of $26500 plus ttt and told me they were selling them all at msrp. He pretty much told me the internet quotes I am getting from other dealers were lies.
I really dont care for the games they play regarding final price. Truthfully I know the "invoice" price you see on Edmunds really isnt the TRUE invoice. So I am using the Edmunds invoice more as a guide rather than a rule. But like I said I was almost laughed out of the dealer for offering $26500. I just dont have the patience to mess around with these dealers especially when there in my opinion better options at that price.

I bought my 07 EX in January and went through a broker after dealing with two dealerships. I paid $25,400 including all taxes and fees.
This was less than the dealerships were quoting me for an 07 Element EX.

Honda has a 3% dealer holdback based on MSRP...So if you want an EX-L AWD Navi, the MSRP=$28000, the Invoice=$25887. 3% of MSRP=$840.00.
So, the invoice to the dealer is $25887-$840=$25,047. Add in the destination of $595.00 (allegedly, non-negotiable) and you get $25,642. Anything over this is profit to the dealer. I could be wrong, but it is my understanding Honda does not offer further profit to the dealer based on hitting certain quotas, ie, if a dealer sells x or y volume of vehicles in a year, they will get an additional x or y% in addition to the 3%. The big 3 have that for sure.
I feel I got a good price but it is hundreds higher than the $26,100, if that does not include destination, otherwise that is a quote of $26,695. That is about $100 cheaper than I am buying mine for, which is a lot cheaper than one other dealer I worked with and a WHOLE lot cheaper than the other dealers I worked with. One special internet pricing was actually MSRP. Crazy.
Good luck. If you have a quote, you can probably get cheaper, but this is a hot item, and I had to get something, couldn't really wait. I hope you don't have my disease...Took me 3 years to buy my wife a car and 2 years and 2 months to buy this. I guess it is a disease if hating to get raped by most dealerships is a disease. I am for small government, let it act local, but I do think dealerships need to be government regulated. This is the second largest purchase most people make in their life and a lot of the dealers and staff aren't fair. But, I have found, there are a few good ones that I will definately buy from again.

Thanks for the info. This was exactly what I was looking for. Our other vehicle is an MDX which we bought in '02 during the days of Acura charging above msrp. At that time with a little patience we were able to get $2000 off the msrp.
I kind of knew that the dealers might play this game as around here most dealers only have one or two EX-L's on the lot. So its a sellers market right now. We arent in any hurry to pull the trigger and quite frankly may wait it out and look at the '08's.
I thought my offer of $26500 including destination was a fair number and based upon the numbers you provided I still think it is. I think Honda is full of themselves thinking they should get msrp for their standard production vehicles. Sure the CRV is in short supply right now but they wont be in the fall and so by them turning up their noses to people like me they are just losing another loyal customer.
Our last 4 vehicles have been Honda or Acura products. Previous to that we had Toyotas. When Toyota started the same crap Honda is doing right now like acting like they dont deal below msrp I vowed to never own another Toyota and havent stepped a foot in one of their dealers for years. Im afraid if my experience in the fall is the same as it is now I will just put Honda on that list.
Honda makes a great vehicle but it by no means is infallable. I could go on and on about the deficiencies of the MDX but I am still willing to give them my business. The Japanese imports still hold an edge on the Americans but that gap is closing quickly. And though I hate to say it... I am beginning to get the feeling I need to take another look see what the big 3 have on this side of the pond now days...

I paid MSRP but got free pinstipe (lol) and floormats. I bought towards the end of December....they were firm on their price too.....I didn't have the option to shop around too much as the next dealer was over 50 miles away....just didn't fit into my schedule....I am not complaining though....I am very happy with my CRV!

What about the documentation fees, here in ATL they range from $399 to $499. Has anybody been charged those?
Also every dealer here is trying to sell at MSRP, any recommendation on a dealer would be appreciated, I might have to go out of state to get me a good deal

Try an internet quote with Crest Honda out of Nashville. They gave me the best price OTD for Tn dealerships that I tried. That is one way to nuetralize the doc fee variance...tell them you want the OTD price. Honda Doc fees in Memphis are about $325~$400.
Anway, I am picking mine up from The Honda Superstore of Joliet in about 2 weeks.
Good Luck!
P.S....Forgot to add....Mostr add-ons they try to stick you with to offset their price can be had a lot cheaper on Ebay, HandA, College Hills Honda. They try to talk the labor to install, but charging labor to install Trunk Trays, Cargo Nets, Wheel Locks, Mud Guards, moon roof visor, etc is CRAZY!!!!!!!!! What gets me is pinstripping is $10 at Autozone, but Dealerships consistantly addon $100 + to have it. Geese.

Hello. Congrats!
I pick mine up on March 9....Rolled off the line on January 23. I put my deposit down February 2. My parents live in NW Indiana, so I will stay with them for the weekend. Dealing with them (Superstore) was an easier and less stress than putting $0.50 in a Coke machine.

I was looking at a Ridgeline but decided against it due to cronic waterleaks. I'm now looking at the new CR-V. I haven't approached any dealers yet, but checking the online inventories of two local dealerships (Nashua NH and Manchester NH), they seem to have several (8-10) CR-Vs on the lot including several EX-Ls.
From reading the earlier replies, I thought the CR-Vs would be flying off the shelves with just a few cars to pick from. However, the fact that there are 20 CR-Vs sitting in inventory near me says that I might be able to deal something closer to invoice vs MSRP?
Any New Hampshire 07 owners here?

The new CR-V's are "flying off the shelves". Sales are way up from prior years. The inventory is up since there is now a US plant building the 07 CR-V's in Ohio. Those are currently all going to Canada.

I just hated it when I visited several dealers here in ATL and they all pull out the same BS: These CR-Vs are just flying out the lot, we have seven right now but by the end of the week, we will have none.
Another one: You'll be lucky if you get to pay MSRP on one of these. We are the largest Honda dealer in the area, you won't find a better deal.
Another one: Documentation fee of several hundreds is mandatory and we cannot do anything about it...
Please... Sales guys, save it. We customers don't want to hear this and this will make our purchasing experience very unpleasant

Me and my dad were so close to grabbing an '07 Honda CRV today. We thought we had a deal worked out on what they would give us for our trade in (an '03 Jaguar XJ8 Vadenplas w/ Navi). But when we came back with the trade in, everything kind of went to hell.
The deal was supposed to be our car + $7k = 2007 2WD Honda CRV (Silver or blue) EX-L w/ Navi. that's the only car they had on the lot - it had 150 miles on it. But after we came back with the Jaguar, they called around and said they were only getting around $15k for the Jaguar from other Jaguar dealers (they had originally anticipatd $18,200 minimum). So everything kind of went to hell. The sales guy was showing me that they were charging $28,030 or something like that for the CRV they had.
After reading through what people were paying in another forum, I was hoping to pay $26,000 for the 2007 CRV EX-L w/ Navi since I've seen the 4WD grabbed for 27,xxx. I think we'll try to see if we can sell the Jaguar on our own so we can get more, and I'd like to go back with cash and say "we want that CRV, but we only want to pay this much for it."
I asked some people in that other forum if they would mind sending over contact info for the salesmen they bought their CRV from for around this price. Hopefully they'll get back to me. I was thinking of calling around and trying to get written quotes sent to me for matching purposes, or if who they bought from isn't too far away, actually going down to get it.

That's the plan. During this time I take to sell tha jag, I just need to get 2007 CR-V offers in writing to show them to get the price down of the CR-V they have on the lot. Again, they want $28,030 for it and its a 2007 EX-L 2WD w/ Navi and 150 miles. I want to take them down $2k on it and get it for $26k-ish.

I shot a message to Honda of Joliet as you recommended. I tried to reference you, but since I didn't have your name, I just gave them your SN on these forums and the car you bought. Hopefully they'll remember you and if something works out, give you some sort of referral bonus.
Here's the local deal I got right now that I'm trying to beat:
Hello and thank you again for your e-mail reply... and thank you for giving me this opportunity to earn your business. I promise to treat you with the honesty and respect that you deserve.
As previously discussed, we have the exact vehicle in-stock that you have specified and it is ready to be parked in your garage or driveway: 2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2WD with Leather & Navigation.
I am pleased to offer you any new, factory equipped 2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2WD with Leather & Navigation for our special internet price of 25,905.00.
I realize that I must offer you an extra special price and great service in order to earn your business... but first, I must earn your trust! In good faith, here is your written & itemized quotation which will be honored by me when you arrive:
2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2WD with Leather & Navigation
$ 25,905.00 Internet Discounted Price of Vehicle
$ 595.00 Factory originating destination/freight charge
$ 100.00 Processing Fee
$ 1,330.00 5% MD Sales Tax
$ 210.00 Tags, Title and MD Registration
$ 28,140.00 Total Guaranteed "on the road" Price (assuming Maryland residence Registration & Tax)
* The above quotation will remain valid until March 6th, 2007.
* Valid on in-stock units only.
what do you guys think? I'm hoping to shave $700 or so off of that. I've been seeing people say that they've gotten the AWD EX-L w/ Navi for $27,300 so with that being a $1200 option, I was really hoping to get the 2WD EX-L w/ Navi for roughly $26ish even. This is almost there, except for the dealer and destination fees.

Gordon, I just resent the email I sent them earlier with the header and subject line you suggested. Let's see what they say. I mentioned your name specifically so hopefully you can get a referral credit of some sort. Travelling is not a problem, especially to Chicago since my wife is still there right now. She'll be coming in May to live in MD with me for good so, maybe if this process drags out a bit, I'll buy the car there, and bring it to MD with me with all her stuff.
But I really would prefer to get CR-V now.
Thanks for the mention of the price of $25,080. I'm looking for more dealer quotes and am going to let them know that is what the price I want to pay.
So my new goal should be:
$ 25,080.00 Internet Discounted Price of Vehicle
$ 595.00 Factory originating destination/freight charge
$ 100.00 Processing Fee
$ 1,330.00 5% MD Sales Tax
$ 210.00 Tags, Title and MD Registration
$ 27,315.00 Total
Does that look good? Thanks Gordon, Wiu-bimmer, and everyone else in this forum who's commented on pricing. Forums are a good thing for car buying.

if you are a COSTCO member and have good credit, your membership gets you a lowered interest rate with CapitalOne financing which gets you an even lower rate if you sign up for automatic deductions for your car payments. you can pay the whole amount early without any penalties.
the key thing about this is you get a BLANK CHECK that you can bring to the dealer and say " hey look, i have a blank check here that would get that car out the door, i can write you that check right now for YOUR PRICE or i go somewhere else."
you know how much you want to pay for the car and you know the dealer wants a certain amount. make an offer they can't refuse that doesn't get you in financial trouble as well.
i went this route after buying cars in the past....too much time haggling with the sales guys and too much B.S. about the pricing really. when i bought my wife's BEIGE 2007 EX 4wd i spent an hour for the test drive and negotiating the price of the car...together. paper work took 2 hours because of the long lines at the finance office.
try it out and see what you get. if you're a COSTCO member already that's great. if not, the $50 membership you pay for is nothing compared to the money you'll save on the purchase of your new car.
just a suggestion!

Thanks for the suggestion Beige. We're actually hoping to get rid of our '03 Jaguar and just write out a check for the difference so we're not too worried about financing options.
Honda of Joliet got back to me with their quote:
2007 Honda CRV EX 2WD Automatic Trans. Navi
$26,895.00 Sale price including Destination
58.00 Doc Fee
7.50 Joliet Vehicle Tax
10.00 Temporary Tag for Drive Home
$26,970.50 Out The Door (though not really because I have to pay MD Tags and Tax)
Their price is about 400 higher than my best MD quote, and that best MD quote is about $750 higher than what I (and others have agreed in this forum) should pay, so we're at about $1300 over. That might mean that Honda of Joliet won't work out. They're not getting a 2WD w/ Navi until the end of March though so there might be time between now and then to work something out.
I'm waiting for some more MD and VA dealers to get back to me.

Ok, I think I Got my new low price from the DC area for the 2007 CRV 2WD EX-L w/ Navi:
Maryland Sale 5%
Price $24,800.00
Freight $550.00
Total $25,350.00
State Tax $1,267.50
DBL Tax $25.35
Processing $349.00
Tags $180.00
Total Transaction Cost $27,171.85
This was emailed to me as a 1st offer so I wonder if there might be further room to negotiate. I'm waiting to see if there are any in stock, just the price was sent to me. The goal was to make this OTD under $27k, but now I'm wondering if I could go lower. What do you guys think?

If you ask me, that is a good price. I was predicting a best final price of $70 higher. Nice Job.

Processing? I call it added dealer profit. See if you can get them to drop it or at least in half. Dealers around me usually try to charge $79 as a "documentation fee".

I just bought (will pick it up on 2 days!) an 07 EX-L with all bells & whistles. I got it for sticker exactly, and paid the dealer's line item prices for all accessories that I added. My father just bought an EX a couple months prior at the same dealer and did get a "better deal" on his. So I was a pretty bummed that I didn't get any discounted pricing. I fought and fought, but to no avail in the end.
Careful - My dealer tried to put some surchages on, and described to me several ways in which he wasn't going to screw me on price. But I do not equate this to giving me a deal. Two very different things in my mind. I understand that these cars are selling themsleves and that some dealers are even charging premiums. But I still think it should have been discounted a little off the MSRP.
But, I'm getting a car that I love, and am very excited about that - and in the end don't mind paying sticker to get it.

srizvi1, that is in fact a pretty good deal, congrats!!!
We picked up our 2007 CRV EX-L 4WD w/Navi from Joliet last weekend.
Final price including destination was: $26,921.20
+ Documentary service Fee 58
+ City Tax 7.50
+ Drive away permit fee 10
Total $26,996.70
Plus sales tax, tags, etc for GA
We think they gave us an awesome deal and there was no dealer around that could have matched that.
What you got from that dealer sounds great, let us know if they try to slip in some hidden fees/charges when you actually show up at the dealership.

Awesome! I just picked mine up from Joliet Friday and drove back to TN today.
...2007 CRV EX-L 4WD w/Navi....White. Washed it when I got home. Was wondering how much room it would take up in the garage, but without checking, it looks to be about a foot shorter and 1/2 wider than my 96 Accord Sedan it will be replacing.
Obviously, mostly highway miles, but I am averaging 25.13 miles/gallon for the first 676.3 miles.

Also, if you are a Costco Member, they have now placed the CR-V on their buying program, which means you pay $500 or $1000 over invoice, depending on what Costco has negotiated with that dealer. I bought mine through the fleet manager with a Costco discount and her cost on all the pre-installed accessories, like the mats, the cargo tray, wheel locks, door jamb thingies, etc. My total before tax and license was $26,800.
Not sure how that ranks with other deals, but I was happy with it. Here the CR-Vs are flying out the door. The dealer received 6 on a Friday evening. 2 sold that night and I arrived at 9 the next morning. By the time I had finished with my paperwork and was ready to drive away, the remaining 3 were sold. Definitely a hot ticket in So Cal.

I tried Costco, Sams Club, our two credit unions and more than a dozen dealers online and phone calls. After all that footwork and research Brian Wiley (internet sales @ 800-730-5618, ext 214), at Spreen Honda came through. I live in Org Co, CA and we have a wealth of dealers to choose from in So Cal. I even tried some of the "BIG" LA dealers. Overall, only one said they could beat Spreens price(this was a Sams Club referral) but they couldn't get the vehicle (07 CRV EX 4WD, glacier blue). Brian quoted $23,651 including dest chg., no added equipment. No hidden fees, no extra charges; straight, curteous, up-front sales.
Tell Brian I recommended him to you, my name is Don Hermans. I hope you have as good an experience as I did. Happy shopping.

If you are willing to travel, I highly recommend purchasing from them. The service was excellent. Dealing with them on the web, phone, and at the dealership was great. This goes right down to the 18 year old mechanic who picked me up from the airport in an Accord sedan. For a youngster, he was rather mature and was able to carry on a conversation...talked cars all the way to the dealership. Their price is right, they stay on top of everything and they are all very professional.
I imagine any dealership is capable of matching or beating their price if they really wanted to (which isn't the case), but I doubt anyone could match them from a customer service standpoint. I was 100% satisfied with them. Usually, I am happy buying a car, but there is always something on the back of my mind that bothers me, usually something with individuals at the dealership. Not with them.
The price was right & customer service was excellent.

I wanted to thank you all for your input and advice it has proven to invaluable. Well we ended up buying but not a CRV. In the end the dealers around here are demanding MSRP plus forced options. So we ended up going back to Acura and bought an RDX. We ended up paying $31750 OTD. The best deal we could find around here on a CRV EX-L with nav 4wd was $28900 plus TTT. So the RDX ended up costing a bit more and we lost the nav but I think overall it will be a better purchase.
Thanks to everyone.

Well, I just purchased my wife's 07 EX-L, 2wd, no navi for $25,500 out the door. The dealership (Lake Norman Honda) knocked off $1000 off the MSRP, so I was happy considering how in demand the CRV is right now. :)
Overall it was a smooth and easy transaction. I would have liked a little more for my trade (they gave me $3000 when I wanted $3500 on my 98 Civic EX w/ 147k miles on it) but it was getting late and I was tired and not in the mood to argue over a few hundred bucks.
I'm very happy with the purchase and look forward to getting years of enjoyment out of the V.

I tried the COSTCO route but found that I could negotiate a better price on my own... I paid $21,180 incl.dest. +tax&lic. for our 2005 CR-V 4WD 5AT EX... I know I got a smokin' deal, 'cause there was a foul up and I spent 2hrs+ haggling with the dept mgr afterwards. Essentially I wore him down... :-) I just bought my 2007 Element 4WD EX 5AT for $20,992, again substantially better than any buyer assist group could come up with...

Just picked up my CRV EX 4WD in Massachusetts for $23159... $200 over invoice. It helped that I had two dealers competing against each other over emails. I was even happier getting the 'Excellent' value on KBB for my trade.

$26800 for EX-L with Nav + 100 processing + 595 destination + 195 tags + 5% tax.

Is this a good deal? It took a LOT of back and forth to arrive at this number. Dealers are not discounting very much on the EX-L with Nav.

holy shiet. thats a good deal. better than what i got for my EX-L. good job.
i requested over a dozen online quotes in the Charlotte, Atlanta and Greenville, SC areas and only two were sub- $26k straight up (both in the Atlanta area). several were $1k over mrsp. my local dealers (Anderson/green ville, SC) were $26,600 w/ the two accessories. it seems that the local guys take advantage of the convenience of a short drive, but none of the locals have the color i wanted, and i don't like transfers (i'd rather be the transfer driver)..
i have a dealer that's about 5 miles from me and I've never purchased a car from them (and i have purchased 6 hondas since '97) - i always do my test drives there and let them quote but they are always higher. also purchased two '02 rsx's and both from ga.
