My 08 EX-L just passed 1500 miles, and my average MPG is currently running around 17-18...
I do a mix of city driving plus interstate, so is this what people in similar situations are experiencing? We've had a bit of a cold snap recently, but it still seems kind of low- I'm very aware (almost too much) of that MPG digital indicator, and really try to drive to maximize efficiency. What do you guys think- is it going to get better?

Have you been letting the engine enjoy the entire rpm band and giving it plenty of "exercise" under load? Babying your Honda engine will prolong your break-in time. Baby the rest of the car for the first few hundred miles, but not that rev-happy engine.

Thanks. I haven't really been babying it, but I haven't been pushing it either. I'll keep working on that :D

I get up to @75 mph then lock in cruise, other times I'll manually rev through each gear, then lock in cruise. I'm hoping mpg will improve too. ~ The harder I used to beat my FX, the better KITI responded - performance wise ... but still only averaged 15 mpg. (300 HP Fun though)

Cruise is not the best way to get good mpg. You foot will do a better job as the computer is simply trying to maintain a perfect, set speed. Your foot can easily help you achieve better mpg by going slightly faster (or coasting) downhill, slowing up a bit when going uphill, etc.

Well, I ve had my 2008 awd for 3 weeks and 900 miles....the average since I rolled out of the dealers is 25 mpg...both by calc and speedo...the current tank is 26.5...Im about 50 50 hiway..but try too keep it at 65 on hiway...sure is telling how different drivers get different mileage....although the 2004 rav4 I drove for 4 years was only 23.5 over the five years....hmmmmmm

I suppose with the gas price going up, mileage is becoming more pronounced. Gas price will go up even higher in near future. :(

Itachi-san (My 08 CRV) has about 2600 miles on it. For the first few hundred miles the indicator did not move off of 17 MPG. Then I took a road trip during which it rose to 23.6 and has stayed there for a thousand or so miles.

Most of my driving is at posted speeds in moderate suburban traffic but when Im on the open highway I try to do 70 or 80. On the road trip I computed one tank (trying to drive 70 or 80) at 26.4 MPG. So, presently getting about 24 MPG day to day and about 26MPG on the highway.

This is about the same MPG as I got with the 04 CRV. Of course I'd like to do better but wont be surprised or disappointed if I dont.

High MPG was not my top concern when I bought a CRV. I bought another CRV because I wanted safety, reliability and high resale value. I have those and Im getting about 25 MPG, (which is about what a Highlander Hybrid gets). So Im happy.

Now have 8,500 miles on my 2007, 2WD, CR-V EX. The first day of ownership I reset the A trip computer and at 8,500 my average for both HWY and city is 25.6MPG. Every two weeks I make a 100 mile round trip on the interstate at 72MPH and always get over 31MPG. The reading agree with my Scan Gauge, great instrument. Running 32/33 PSI in tires, Shell in the tank but no other changes.:)

I have 2100 miles on my 08 CR-V and I am averaging 24.87 MPG. However, this is mostly freeway driving. This is better mileage than my old Isuzu Trooper.

MPG is really an individual measure. Different driving styles will yield different results. I know you're just trying to figure out if there's something up with your CR-V.
I know this opinion isn't popular, but lay off the skinny pedal a bit if you want better MPG (in general). There's a lot of tips on the internet to save gas while driving.

Hi there,
I've just finished reading all the mpg and stuffs. I just bought my crv last week, And I dont have any idea how to get the mpg. I live in Canada, so is it lpg here? I cant understand. thanks!;)

LPG makes no sense at all...liters per gallon??? A fixed figure of 3.785 which you would use to convert liters to gallons, but you also have a different unit of length--the kilometer. As such wouldn't your fuel economy be measured in kilometers per liter. That is how many units of distance per unit of volume of fuel consumed.

But... I also have a memory of someone from Canada speaking in terms of liter per kilometer??? on the dash display. If so the smaller the better. That is: the less liters (which would be in a fractional measure) you use per kilometer the better your fuel economy vs the more kilometers per liter the better.

To measure actual kilometers per liter, note the odometer reading at a fillup.

On your next fill up subtract the recorded reading from the current odometer reading and divide the difference by the number of liters that you put in the tank.

To find liters per kilometer, divide the liters you put in the tank by the difference in the odometer readings (or take the inverse of the kilometers per liter value which is 1/kpl).

We need our Canadian friends to chime here to help you.

First, welcome to the CRVOC. :)

I trust you are asking about how to calculate miles per gallon (mpg). If so, the process is very simple. To get a quick idea of how your V is doing, the next time you fill up, reset one of your trip odometers (Trip A or B) to zero. Drive as you normally would until it is time to fill up again. Refill the tank and make a note of how much fuel it took (record). Note the miles on your trip odometer (record). You can reset the trip odometer to zero or let it continue as long as you keep the data recorded. When you have some time simply divide the miles by the gallons used (M/G). This is the one tank, quick look. To get a more accurate number this process should be repeated over several (3 or 4) tanks of fuel. The preferable method would be to use the "total gallons" and "total miles" over the 3 or 4 tanks of fuel but it's also OK to just average the individual M/G from each tank of fuel.

Being from Canada doesn't change the process at all. It just changes the units. Gallons becomes liters and miles become kilometers. You would be dividing your kilometers driven by the liters of fuel used to get kilometers per liter. :)

Hope this helps. If not, or if I didn't answer the right question, please get back to us.

I am F.O.S. Fuel economy is measured in Canada with liters per 100 kilometer.

Here is a site courtesy of your government that will explain and has calculators and converters to mpg.

The Fuel Calculator (http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/transportation/tools/fuel-trip-calculator/fuel-calculator-input.cfm?attr=8)

Sorry for the confusion above. Hope this site helps.

Thanks guys for these information, I'm just confused of this mpg, and I thought there is some meter to read that I havent check to get this reading. Im just a savvy and wanted to learn everything in my V. Ok I'll try to do this recording and I will post it back here for the result. Thanks again!;)

I bought my 08 EX-L w/Navi on March 5th. I'm kind of a freak about keeping track of mileage, repairs, upgrades, etc. I'm keeping an Excel spreadsheet of my fuel mileage.

So far, with 2306 miles at my last fillup, my average MPG is 24.44 as calculated: total miles --divided by-- total gallons. The average MPG indicated by the built-in trip computer is 24.97.

For the statisticians among us, note that these numbers are not weighted averages, but just an average of the 7 fillups I've done. If I wanted to be completely accurate, I'd give more weight to the fillup that required 13 gallons versus the fillup that required 8 gallons, in other words.

Since I bought the CR-V on March 5th, I've made approximately 15 round trips from Loveland, CO to the airport in Denver. (If you do the math, what this amounts to is that I haven't done much in the last 6 weeks except drive to and from work! ) The round trip is approximately 130 miles. 80 of the 130 miles are interstate miles, but there's always enough traffic that I can't really maintain a steady, gas-mileage-friendly pace.

I drive like a little old lady and seem to do better than most in gas mileage. Not that it matters for gas mileage purposes, but the average I've paid per gallon of gas is $3.06/gallon with the most recent (04/18) at 3.199. I always fill at the Sam's Club on my way out of town.

Best regards to all.

Rod

^I think your figures are quite reasonable. I am averaging around 26.2 MPG. I have around 4,000 miles and my driving so far has been 90% highway. I probably should get slightly better mileage but I drive 70-75 MPH when I can. Hopefully, my mileage will get better in the months to come as weather warms up. Good luck and welcome to the Forum!

Since the tank on both is 15.3 gallons, are you filling the 06 at 8.75 gallons left?

You state 15 gallons and 245 miles on the 97. This would equate to 16.3 mpg! Are you sure you understand how to calculate mpg? I routinely fill my 99 around 330 miles and use about 13.7 gallons for a mpg of about 24. If I fill when the low fuel light comes on, I only put in about 12 gallons, leaving 3.3 left.

Right at about 5000 miles now. Took a trip, almost all highway, averaged over 29 on the way there and over 26 on the way back. The difference was higher speeds (~75) and more aggresive driving style.

I have 2300 miles and have averaged 24.3 MPG. The first tank was 27.8. The mileage is better than the Honda Pilot I traded in.
