View Full Version : Better Color Names?

Just a suggestion for Honda that they put a little more pizzazz into a couple of their color names. I initially favored what I considered a "gold" CR-V, but the thought of having a "beige" car really was a turn-off. Wouldn't "Borrego Gold" or "Desert Gold" or "Stardust Gold" sound snazzier than "Borrego Beige"?! I never really thought I would be affected by the color name, but I ended up going with Tango Red! I think, deep down, even though I am very practical, I was determined not to get something too boring and stodgy. In fact, when I read the post from someone saying they were horrified that their state registered their CR-V as a "station wagon", I had the same reaction. I came from a large family and swore I would never drive a station wagon after all those years of having to ride in one as a kid. Looks like I'm doomed to repeat my past! ;) Anyway, while we're at it on renaming the colors, I think "Green Tea" could be "Rainforest Green" and "Whistler(?) Silver" could be "Moonlit Silver". I'm sure all you out there could come up with other great ideas. Honda had the right idea with "Nighthawk Black". "Tango Red" is not a bad name, although I would picture a Tango Red as being much more vivid, so to be more descriptive, I would maybe name it after a fine red wine or something. What do you all think? Did the color names affect your choice at all, or is it just me?

Just to clarify...I wouldn't pick a color just based on a name, but if I couldn't decide between a couple of colors, the name could tip the scale.

Good point. I certainly would only buy a new car in my favorite color, but the color name wouldn't change my mind.

The S2000 sportscar has colors with racing themes (Gran Prix White, Chicane Silver, etc.) The Accord has Bold Beige, Mystic Green and Alabaster Silver. The Element comes in Atomic Blue, Galaxy Gray and Tangerine. Even the humble Fit has Blackberry, Milano Red, Storm Silver and (my favorite name!) Tidewater Blue. I think of tidewater as greenish-brown and smelly, but that's just me.

Anyway, seems like our CR-V got the B-team to name its colors. I'll keep my eyes open for a silver whistler.

Platinum Blond describes the color quite well, but I think you'd be opening yourself up to a lot of jokes!

The Tidewater Blue comment made me think of Chevy Chase's Family Vacation movie where he ended up with the Metallic Pea Family Truckster station wagon, instead of the snazzy blue one. Subconsciously, maybe that's why I steered clear of the Green Tea Metallic CR-V!

People won't buy "gold" cars. If they are calling on a used car, we never describle a color as "gold". We will say beige or champagne instead.

If we say "gold" it's an instant turnoff.

I guess I must not be "people" then!

Yeah how about black, silver, red, green, and white simple names I never got this crap and if you actually say "I have got a Tafetta White CR-V on the drive" you deserve to be punched in the face in the same way as Ferrari owners who say "I've got a prancing horse" or anyone who owns a BMW:D
