I have a 2004 CRV EX and I just successfully installed a Donnally automatic dimming rear view mirror. The unit included both a compass and outside air temperature indicator. The installation is very similar to the Automatic Day/Night Mirror offered by Honda for the 2005 CRV.
My 2004 EX was manufactured in GB and the mirror uses a camlock type mount. I was able to purchase the mirror, with installation hardware, wiring, and temperature probe, from American Security Company at Ebay. The instructions basically have you tapping into a wire that is controlled by the ignition. But, I used the Honda Automatic Day/Night Mirror Attachment Kit per Installation Publication All 27160 for the 2005 CRV. I was able to route the temperature probe wiring through a plastic plug in the firewall on the passenger side. The plug is high in the footwell under the carpeting and sound proofing material.
The Honda installation instructions and wiring harness worked very well. The Honda Attachment Kit, P/N 08V03-S9A-101 cost $47.50. It is a fairly complicated installation. The wiring harness supplied with the mirror may have been an easier installation. I have a 2004 CRV EX and I just successfully installed a Donnally automatic dimming rear view mirror. The automatic dimming mirror works very well and I am really happy with it. The outside temperature probe and compass are also working well and are a nice accessory. The mirror that I used is the same mirror that Honda supplies, but includes the outside temperature probe and uses a camlock mount. I think that the mirror available on the 2005 CRV uses a wedge type mount.
