Hi
I am a new owner of an 06 and my previous vehicle was an 2000 Rav4 .On the Rav4 I put a lock on the spare tire cover so it did not go for a walk. But the CRV is held on by two zippers and I heard the hard cover costs a few hundred bucks.Has anyone come up with a way to stop your hard cover from disappearing into the night.

Use a small lock on the zipper tabs? I've never worried about it, if someone wants it bad enough, they will get it. Your RAV cover was just as easy to lift with a small pair of bolt cutters...

It would be quite odd for a thief to go out and steal your wheel cover I mean they aren't cheap but figuring stolen ones have very little value unlike say your spare tire and wheel. Your main worry is pranksters and drunk people so just put a small zip tie on the zippers it's out of sight doesnt show and wont damage the paint plus all you need to have is something sharp to cut it like a pocket knife or keys so when you get a flat you don't have to fumble for keys. The thing is to make it difficult for thieves take for example wheel locks, many criminals can brake through these things but it takes time and attracts attention so instead they just move on to another car same thing with the cover a zip tie isn't full proof but unlike a lock the zip tie doesnt attract attention so idiots aren't drawn to it and if they try to steal it they just will go to another car, hopefully.

Thanks
I think your idea is great .I put one of the plastic zip ties on and it is not visible ,won't rust and it will take something to cut it off thus stopping pranksters and idiots from taking it.As you said, if they wanted it off my Rav the lock would not of stopped them, just slowed them down.
