Does anyone know if it is possible to convert the headlights in a 2008 CR-V to automatic headlights (auto on/off)? Is a kit available for this? Can a dealer's service department do this sort of work? Would the modification be prohibitively expensive? Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide.

Why would you want that? It's just a gimmick IMHO. I have it and never actually use it. Instead I have my headlights on all day long. Much safer than having auto headlights. Auto wipers on the other hand are a whole different thing.

I'd like to have automatic headlight too. this way you will never forget to turn off the headlight.

I have this option in my pathfinder before and it is nice.. never have to turn off the headlight. once open the door it shut up automatic and would like to have it in the crv too

Same here - I have it my other car and I love it
Automatic wipers I do not like it that much - you usually forget to turn it off in winter and there goes the blade

I concur ! My 2002 saturn had automatic ON/OFF headlights and it especially helpfull for me becuase we all love trying to start the CR-V and the battery is drained because we forgot to use the "OLD TECHNOLOGY" . Honda create an aftermarket kit please. And on the EX trim level they could have at least put lighted vanity mrrors in.

I had auto headlights of some sorts (including the POS S-10) up until I got my CR-V. I'm STILL not used to manually turning off or on the headlights after driving the car for three plus months now. I would PAY if someone like KPierson (from the ROC) could make a module that would allow for the headlights to shutoff automatically.

I have auto lights, but tend to override them because I often have lights on during the day for safety. The 'auto' setting gets used instead of off.

Anyway, the car beeps at you if the driver's door is opened with the lights left on, so I don't see why you should let the battery go flat.

Directed makes an add-on kit that will turn our CRV poor man's headlights into 'auto headlights'. Their part number is 545T and it's called "Nite-Lite". I had one on a previous vehicle and it worked great. My local dealer wants about $150 installed price.

You may have trouble finding it on their website; it's not listed under products but if you dig deep enough you can find the "owner's guide" 1-page summary.

Cool. I may be ordering one of those control modules.

First, I'm going to see if I can add a relay or something so that the headlights turn off when the key is off, even if I leave the switch on the stalk turned on. That's how all the old SAAB's are set up. You turn the lights on, and never turn them off (unless you are working on the car or you want to drive in the dark, then you can turn them off if you want).

I don't need the photocell gizmo.

This ebay listing looks like a relay and some wires. Sounds like what I was thinking of doing.... Time to rip into the brand new car.

The price is awfully high if it's just a relay and some wires.
