Umm
I got one.
Diesels do 40+ mpg (uk) and fuel costs us dear in UK so diesels win mostly for miles.
The Honda derv engine is noisy when cold but very impressive when driving as provides plenty of midrange pull.
Thats all
Glad you are enjoying it - what sorts or roads and speeds are you driving to get 40 mpg - I have just over 6000 miles on mine now and its doing about 36

Wow, I can't wait until they start selling those over here too.
Hopefully in 2009 or 2010 we'll get to see one appear at dealers in NA.

With the cost of diesel vs. petrol here in the UK, there is not a big financial argument for buying the more expensive diesel model, at least not with the annual mileage I do (about12,000). However, i think the ctdi engines characteristics - strong pull from high torque around 1800 rpm - suits the crv better than a petrol with power at 4000 rpm.
One characteristic of the ctdi that impresses me is its willingness to rev freely.

Judging by the performance of your other cars Stan, I guess you are a bit heavier footed!
On long runs I can just about get 45 uk mpg. A mixture of half town and half A roads drops it to about 40 mpg though.
Driving fast on the motorway does harm too. 75 to 80 mpg drops the FE to about 37 mpg.
Sometimes my wife gets angry because I am going too slow to get the best mpg!

And for those that way inclined, the diesel can of course be remapped... :)
192bhp anyone? :D

Any idea what mpg will result.
Just interested on the effects as would not do it to car under warranty.

I agree the old argument of: "The higher mpg hence lower fuel bills of diesel off sets the costs" is well and truly dead (in the UK anyway)
But I'd buy a diesel to get a better engine hopefully I'm not towing anything larger than an ego but as a previous car really didn't have any bloody torque but the Volvo 850 T5 had me grinning ear to ear except for 26 UK mpg I know that I miss the stuff... Also consider the engine is burning its fuel most efficiently at peak torque (Volumetric efficiency, BMEP and all that). Now where would you like this peak efficiency? Noisy high engine speed or quite low speeds?
I know it's possible to build cracking 2.0 petrol with 80ft-lb per liter? (We had those 20 years ago!) And I think we could get it to work at 1800 rpm but there is no real market for it... These new common rail turbo diesels have taken it.
If you want low speed torque and fuel efficiency you only option is diesel.
I must admit I'm a little mishearted at Honda and Subaru for not building diesels into thier range sooner. And I'd secretly really really like a 3.0L - 3.2L , V6, 240hp+ , 35 mpg diesel to match/BEAT the Germans... But I don't think Honda will build one maybe Toyota will be more receptive? ;)

not sure on the CRV, but would imagine similar results to that on the Civic... :)
Which are at least as good as pre-chip, if not slightly better (we're talking 1 or 2 mpg here so not earth shattering or indeed Earth saving)
That is of course assuming that you don't decide to use the extra horses ALL the time ;)
The same / increased mpg is from a straw poll of about 6 or so owners who have had the map, and based on their several thousands of miles since :)

superchip Superchips - Superchips Applications. (http://www.superchips.co.uk/models.php).
They state 'only' a 38bhp gain on the CRV, but it's the same engine as the Civic, which I know they take to 192bhp.
£499 inc, you go to one of their (many) distributors. Price includes SuperChip warrenty
or
Celtic Tuning Celtic Tuning - Honda CR-V ECU Remap (http://www.celtictuning.co.uk/Car%20Tuning/vehicles/honda/honda-CR-V-ecu-remap-chip-engine-tuning.html)
No prices on the site, but from memory they are a bit cheaper than SuperChip (circa £399 I think), but no warrenty.
They turn up to a mutually agree place (your house), but I think they do need 'net access to send your stock readings off and get the new map back.
Don't know if they can use 3G laptop card to do that.
hope that helps! :D

Toyota already has 4 cyl, 3.0L+ diesels in that size range they use on thier Prados and Hiluxes.
1KZ-TE: 143HP, 253 ft/lbs torque
1KD-FTV: 167 HP, 259ft/lbs torque
They also have a monster 4.5L diesel motor for the new Landcruiser LC200.
1VD-FTV: 253HP, 479 ft/lbs torque
