So I broke down and bought the Honda hitch and had it installed by my dealer. Now for my question...the CRVs exhaust/muffler is now lower than standard position without the hitch. I asked the dealer about this and they say that with the factory hitch this is the way it's supposed to be. It runs fine, and I can find nothing that this lower position impacts. Anybody else experience this or know if my dealer is making things up? Thanks.

Your dealer is correct. When you install the hitch the muffler has to be repositioned slightly lower than the factory location. This should not be an issue.

Steps 18 thru 23 in sthis install guide show the muffler relocation.

WOW...thanks for posting the PDF of the 07 "honda" hitch install.

That has got to be one of the worst installs proceedures I've seen in a long time. I was in the install business for many years and thats a pretty one!!! (there are worse of course!)

The aftermarket versions from Drawtite and Hidden hitch look a bit better, but still a pain in the A double S!

I recently installed a Valley class III hitch receiver. I estimate time spent was prox. 1.5 hrs. I could probably do the install now that I know the preceedure and tools needed in 1/2 hr. The muffler is temporarily dropped from the rubber mounts but then is remounted at the stock height.

The order from etrailer.com included the receiver, 2.75" rise (or 4" drop) ballmount, wiring harness (plugs into the V's existing connector), and 1-7/8" ball for total of $161.79. Shipping free for orders over $150.

The install time mentioned was for the receiver only.
