I've heard that DTK's give alot more power to the CR-V. Anyonw here tried one of these Plug&Drive kits?

tried one on my Civic (same engine)...
after having it on the rolling road, both before and after, it gave me a stunning extra 15bhp :(
I then took it for a blast down the local dual carriageway (legal speeds, just high revs), and it cut the engine out as the rev limiter kicked in in 2nd
10 mins later, after I had ripped it out and kicked it into touch, all was fine again
having said that, other Civic owners have been running these boxes with no problems :)
HOWEVER (and it's a BIG however )
Both SuperChip and Celtic Tuning do proper pukka remaps for this engine :D
In Civic guise, they are getting 192bhp - a tad more than any tuning box will give you!
Costs more (obviously), but £ per pony is very good :D

Has anybody else tried a diesel tuning kit on a honda (pref CR-V).
The claims look very interesting and even if only half true, might be worth it...
Thanks

i would stay away from ebay kits, and the plug and play type of "tuning boxes" most are for petrol engines, but some companys are cashing in on the diesel market now, they all mostly operate on a resistor and usually are hooked up to the IAT sensor. now "real tuning chips" like superchips, that are quite expensive, are really only for big diesel trucks. and im looking for a legit chip right now ill report back

even chips that look "real" like this one http://www.chipexpress.com
are fake, and i heard of one called the "power cord" or some thing like that for diesels and it sold for like 50 bucks, it sucks. i tried a chip for my petrol V and they do not work.

Hi there i've just had my cr-v remapped to 170 bhp and up to now i would say i am very impressed indeed . Loads more power and the fuel is good too.
I had my cr-v remapped by sptuning it cost around £210 quid but was worth every penny now cr-v handles and drives much better(more responsive)and more midrange power. I don't tow anything so i can't tell you about the torque side of things but i am sure there is a big improvement there.I had a vwgolf mk4 diesel and i bought one of those tuning boxes off ebay,it was g reat for about a week then it started playing up such as when i excellerated the car felt like i was holding back and then suddenly pick up. steadily over a about 2weeks it got worse so i disconnected it and then it started driving ok again. After that i had the vdub remapped properly and it was great better throttle response throughout the whole gearbox range so i would go for a remap every time.

I have just returned from a 600 mile return trip with the tuning kit from ebay fitted. I have more torque, better acceleration, and my mpg averaged 45.2.
I would have expected a max mpg of something in the 38 or 39 in the same conditions.
At £100, plus £6 increase in insurance, I am very happy.....

Sounds good, but you should check the mpg the old fashioned way. The remap might have screwed with the accuracy of the mpg calc.
The plugin boxes definately give a false impression of mpg, because the ecu tells the injectors to give a certain amount but the box intercepts the signal and tells the injector to give more. Since the ecu didn't know this, it calculates mpg based on a lower figure.
Proper remap should be ok, but worth testing.
