No special tool required. For each member that has done brake work, you will probably hear a different method but all will be similar. A large C-clamp works fine. I have used a socket and a pair of large channel locks before, or just strong hands (take a look at the video). Just push the caliper piston back slowly and if you have kept the brake reservoir on the master cylinder full (topped off), watch that it doesn't over flow when the fluid gets pushed back through the system.

I like to retract caliper piston while still mounted - just put a C-clamp over pad and back side of it and compress - that way if there is any pressure left in ABS system it will not shout out when you try to take it out from mount and you do not need a third hand.
I you are going to do it after disassembling use a piece of 2x4 on piston so it will not get damaged.

As mentioned - a c-clamp works as good as anything. Also - best to open bleeder valve so old fluid is drained as piston is compressed. Put a length of hose on the bleeder and place in a bottle to catch the fluid. You should flush out the old fluid periodically and this is as good a way as any to get started.
