had a 91 honda wagon 4WD for 14 yrs, great little car, but to get a new start, i just bought an 06 CR-V. i really like it but i have a question about the transmission.
when i'm on a steep hill (45 degrees) and the car is in drive, if i take my foot off the brake, the car will roll backwards. likewise, if i'm facing down a steep hill in reverse, if i take my foot off the brake, it will roll forward. is this normal? it doesn't do it all the time on less steep hills..... my little wagon, considerably lighter, never did this...
thanks... ab17

It is normal. An auto tranny is not designed to hold a vehicle on a hill. In fact, you can overheat one very quickly if you do. Use your brakes to hold you on a hill. If you get a little bit or roll back on a steep hill when you let off the brake, do not be concerned.

Isuzu actually has had this as a feature on their auto trannies for years. It works great off-road on steep hills.
