I like OEM. That was you are not cutting any wires. But, having Homelink is a nice feature. I have me OEM auto dimming mirror with compass for sale. PM me if you are interested.

I think you should go for it. I just installed the OEM unit last week and the install was very easy. Just look at the video for the OEM install. The only hitch I had was removing the old mirror mounting cover. I needed a very thin hook to get under the plastic, so I could pull it outward.
The Gentex should have the correct mounting hardware, and most likely the correct plug. The Gentex was my first choice over the wife hand picked OEM unit. Since the car is really hers, I had to purchase the OEM....

Highly recommended!
Although with an EX-L, you won't notice all that much improvement from headlight glare with the auto dimming feature since you already have a dark tinted back window, the compass, and most especially, the Homelink is a must-have! I don't know why the Honda OEM mirror does not come with the Homelink feature. Assuming you will be putting the Homelink to good use, you will be happy with the Gentex!

I've looked at the College Hills Honda video, and I am wondering if there is a better way to get the A pillar garnish off. The video shows them using a ball peen hammer and a shop towel to break the clip, which then gets replaced. There seems to be a visible divot left on the garnish. My wife will kill me if I take a hammer to her CR-V that only has a view miles on it, lol.

I have seen mentioned in various instructions and TSB using tools from a "plastic parts removal kit" or something to that effect. Obviously you don't want to order some specialized took kit from Honda. There was a post where you could buy something similar at an auto parts.

The ball peen hammer is probably the tool of choice when you are being paid flat rate. A little care and slow prying should help although you may want to have the spare clips on hand.
To be safe, remove all the guns, ammunition, knives, candlestick holders, and blunt objects from your home before starting the project.

Black Pearl, you are very wise. The good news is the A pillar garnish, even if I had to replace it, is only about $12. My car doesn't have any squeaks or rattles...yet. I always dread tearing in to a new car, popping clips with screwdrivers, yanking on things that are nicely tightened down and in perfectly good working order. How bad do I need homelink and a compass?

Today I was browsing thru the Gentex Corp URL and realized that they are the manufacturer of the HONDA "OEM" Auto Dimming w/compass mirror. Take a look at the attached PDF.
So at this point I wonder why go with the Honda mirror if you can directly go with Gentex at a better price and more features like Homelink, microphone, reverse camera and others...
The compass even looks better displayed in the mirror itself.
Now the question is, will the Gentex homelink mirror come with the 6-pin connector that plugs directly on the interior fuse box??
Comments please. Thanks.

Snowskier,
I'm very interested to hear about how it went with your project with the Gentex Homelink Compass mirror, specially over the cable harness plug compatibility with the CRV 6-pin connector on the fuse box.
Pictures of your installation a very welcome!. :) Thanks
