stanlam 04-17-2008, 11:55 PM I've studied at least 10 bluetooth speakerphones. The Siemen HKW-700 is the best one for the Honda CR-V. Look at how it fits perfectly on the space provided in the CR-V. I actually purchased mine on sale a few month back on the internet for $30.00 shipped.
The bluetooth is actually hardwired into the CR-V. I get the power directly from the back of the cigarette lighter.
Microphone- This bluetooth has a detached microphone. Detached microphone are by far the best. It avoids feedback. (I hooked up the microphone right next to my dashboard. That's the best place.)
Loud- I've tried several Bluetooth, and this one is one of the loudest.
Display - This bluetooth actually has a display. Most don't. It displays the phone number of the caller.
Quality - I would have to say it's better or equal to a Lexus or BMW.
Automatic - Everytime you start the engine, your cell phone automatically connect to this bluetooth speaker phone.
(They still have these at amazon.com for $40.00 shipped. Other places charge about $100.00.)
Alpinemaps 04-18-2008, 06:39 PM I picked one of these up, based on your recommendation. It looks great. Unfortunately, I can't get it work with my cell phone(s). Both of which are RAZR v3's. The instructions do say they are compatible, but I can't seem to figure that part out (not your problem, just mentioning it).
Like the way you have it set up. Glad it's working for you. I'm about to get new phones, so hopefully I'll get those connected successfully.
Do you have any links you can share with us on the product, or any support for the product?
Larry n 04-18-2008, 07:08 PM A couple of questions on the install please. Does the cigarette lighter plug detach easily and does it leave a hole where it was attached? How did you mount this to the dash? Do you have to press any buttons when a call is coming in or does it connect by itself? Thanks...
stanlam 04-18-2008, 08:35 PM here's the link to the full instrutions....

Here's the instructions for the first time link to your bluetooth cell phone....
1. Make sure the hkw-700 is turned off and plugged in.
2. Then press the volume switch on the far end by pressing DOWN or IN (not right or left according to the arrows) and hold it in.
3. A code should them appear. (It should be 4 numeric digits.) This is the code that you type into your telephone.
4. At this point, you need to follow the instructions of your cell phone.
The quality of this hkw-700 is equalivant to my mom's 2006 lexus and my friends 2007 BMW. I think the reason this unit is so cheap in price is because their instructions suck. However, after you get it to work, you will love it. Anymore question, please ask....
stanlam 04-18-2008, 08:46 PM >>>>>A couple of questions on the install please. Does the cigarette lighter plug detach easily and does it leave a hole where it was attached?
The original CRV cigarette lighter was in place the whole time. Behind the CRV cigarette ligther, there is the power wire that snaps off. Therefore, when I cut into the power wire, I never removed the CRV cigarette lighter. I just unplugged the wire from the back. Then the compartment where the hkw-700 is installed at, I just drilled a small hole so the wire can go through the back.
>>>>How did you mount this to the dash?
There are many ways of installing it. The best way I thought was I actually installed another cigarette lighter into the storage compartment where the hkw-700 is currently installed in the CRV. Then after I positioned it, I put fix-all (a type of cement) into the compartment. I can actually pull out the hkw-700 and now there is just a cigarette lighter in the hole.
>>>>Do you have to press any buttons when a call is coming in or does it connect by itself? Thanks...
You just have to press the green button. Which you can actually see when you are driving. When a person calls, I can see the screen of the hkw-700, which will display their phone number through caller ID. Then if I want to accept the call, I press the green button. If I want to just send them to voice mail, I press the red button.
X-Brawn 04-18-2008, 11:00 PM I'd like to see some photos of where the microphone is placed, and how the 12V outlet was tapped into.

Thanks for posting that. I did manage to find those instructions the other day, and tried that, but with no luck. Cell phone doesn't make the connection to the device (it never finds it).
I'm almost positive it's the cell phone, and not the device. Don't worry, minor user error here.
I'd love to see pictures of the install, too. If I can get this working, I'd really like to get this permanently installed in the car.
Thanks for sharing.
stanlam 04-20-2008, 05:25 PM The top picture is where the microphone is installed. I just picked that location because it was convenient.
The upper left picture is how the back of the hkw-700 looks with the white cement (fix-all) I used. It looks ugly from the back. However, you have to bend down really low to see how the back looks. When I installed the hkw-700, I actually position the unit with some masking tape, then I mixed the cement and use my 2 fingers to fill the gap with the cement. The fix-all tries like in 15 minutes.
The last 2 pictures on the bottom shows how I tapped into the back of the cigarette lighter to get power. The red wire is the back of the cigarette lighter. Remember you can pull that wire out, it unplugs easily from the cigarette lighter. Then after you tapped into the wire, you just plug it back in.
cr-vtec 05-05-2008, 06:19 PM I recieved my order today, I got it from the link that you attached, I was really excited to use it but when I plugged it in it won't turn on at all, I tried in 3 different cars and there's still no power. Am I doing something wrong or does this unit need to be charged? Please help!

No, there is no battery inside. Are you sure you are pushing it all the way into the lighter? If that didn't work, then check the fuse on the bluetooth.
I didn't provide a link to purchase this item. I only stated that amazon.com has it for the cheapest price. I purchased mine from woot.com about a year ago and it works fine.
If it still doesn't work, claim the warranty. The company that makes the bluetooth, Siemens has been in business for over 160 years and it in 190 countries. Go to Siemens.com and check the warranty.
illegal 05-06-2008, 07:22 AM wow. I was going to recomend the parrot system, but have fun with that.
cr-vtec 05-06-2008, 11:46 AM I pushed it all the way in, still no luck, I hope it's just the fuse, but where do I find the fuse? This is really frustrating, I expected everything to work fine. My order didn't even come with a user manual. I'll see what I can do today though.

Opps, I just checked mine and I can't find the fuse either. Most electronics do have fuses. sorry.
Regarding the instructions..... That's strange, Woot also didn't give me instructions either. However, you can print them off the internet.
Are you sure your blueetooth is pushed all the way into the lighter? When I was testing mine, I noticed that on this device, you have to really push it in hard.

Ok, I opened the part that plugs in to the lighter socket, and there is a lil fuse, but then it's so small I can't really tell if it's bad, Well the company that I ordered it from e-mailed me and told me to discard it and they'll send me a new one at no charge.
illegal 05-07-2008, 08:37 AM it sounds like you guys are prime candidates for profesional installs, with better, hidden systems.
stanlam 05-07-2008, 01:21 PM wow. I was going to recomend the parrot system, but have fun with that.
I heard they are really good, but expensive.
cr-vtec 05-07-2008, 01:55 PM I heard they are really good, but expensive.
And the install is more complicated I think.
lefooey 05-07-2008, 07:21 PM I went with this one. No, it's not a permanent install but I have to charge it maybe once every two weeks if I'm not talking on it continuously. And the background noise canceling is excellent - it's very hard to tell you're on a speaker phone.

Alpinemaps 05-26-2008, 11:14 PM Well, I've tried this particular bluetooth (the HKW-700) with three different phones - 2 different RAZRs and a Blackberry Curve - no luck. I can't get the phones to even see that the device is there.
I probably have a bad unit, but, I've waited so long since I received it to pick up the Curve, that I'm sure I'm out of luck.
It looks like it works great. I know other people have had success with both the RAZR and the Curve. Seems like it's hit and miss with this product.
Oh well...I'm still looking, and it looks like I may just have to go with the professionally installed product. The Parrot looks nice, and may end up going with that.
illegal 05-27-2008, 09:43 AM the reason i like the parrot over the motorola is the fact that you wire it into the id harness, so it uses, the factory speakers, not an additional speaker, and it mutes the radio/cd while it's in use. Please have someone put it in for you though that knows what they are doing. get that warranty. I do this for a living.

I was looking at the Parrot today, and I do like the concept. I agree with the idea of having a pro do the installation. I'd rather not have the 21 year old at Fry's do it, but have someone that knows what they are doing.

Thanks.
