hi everyone.
just wondering if anyone has thoughts about cargo boxes.
we are leaning toward a hard cover,
and we have already installed one bike rack on the roof rails, wanted to put one more maybe, so we need a cargo box that only uses about half the width.
any ideas? pics or links would be great.
thanks in advance.

We have a Thule Cascade XT box, which we affectionately call the "roof bucket". It is solid. I can put 2 sets of clubs or downhill skis in there! Your issue will be the width and weight distribution, i.e. what gear you put in the bucket along with loading the bike rack. Use the Thule website to determine the best dimensions for your needs.
The Cascade XT opens from either side (vs. the rear), which makes life much easier. We paid almost $800 for ours 2 years. Tough to find these used. We store ours in an overhead shelf unit I constructed in my garage.
I don't think I answered your question; however, I wanted to share my positive experience with my Thule.

hi, and thanks for the response. this is definitely helpful, it is nice to hear about your satisfaction with the box. did you have a roof rack installed as well for the $800? i just did a search for the cascade and even with shipping should be under $400.
i will keep the thule cascade in mind, thanks.
another thule i was looking at is the sidekick. seems like a great deal at only $170 plus free shipping. it isn't as long as the cascade, but it is only 25" wide, so hopefully that would leave room for two bikes. i know for sure there is room for one bike, but we would like to get the second one on the roof as well. 8 cubic ft. sounds like plenty. we just need the box for backpacks and protective gear.
anyone out there using the thule sidekick? please let me know what you think.

we got the 11 cu ft box due to budget constraints. Also got a wind deflector and a rack for my Acura. All came to $800 (shoulda checked before posting).
