can anyone tell me how i can go about replacing the plate light bulb for my 08? the owner's manual seems to have skipped this part.
i know how to slide the housing from the outside to disengage it, but theres no way i can pull it out from underneath the honda logo.
thanks!

Welcome to the CRVOC clavicle. The manual shows that the inner tailgate trim panel needs to come out so the tabs on the back side of the light can be depressed. I don't know if there is a way to do it without pulling the panel.
Did it burn out on your or are you plutting in an aftermarket bulb?

CAll the dealer. I say they would do it for free.

The 07 owner's manual conveniently forgot the plate light also. The fact that it is not in the owner's manual when the rest of the lights are indicates that it may be a tough job. It would be nice if they mentioned the fact. I went out and looked at the car. I have a feeling that you may have to access it from the inside as Lizzurd noted. Most likely the first step would be to remove the bottom exterior plastic panel. There seems to be no other access to interior panel. With the bottom panel off you may be able to reach the light without removing the interior panel.
All that said, Stanlam has true words of wisdom.
Unfortunately the parts breakdown is not too good in this case.

If the light is burnt out, take it to the dealer. If you are trying to replace the bulb with aftermarket, I would reconsider the need. But then again I am pathologically lazy. Things that are cool just don't drive me out of the chair.

thanks all for the quick response!..yes i inteded to install an aftermarket white light (which i forgot to mention), versus the stock yellow-ish one...its definitely not worth the hassle...

Perhaps the stock yellowish light is not as cool as the intended white light, but it also probably is not as bright--making it a little harder for the gendarmes (or their cameras) to spot your license number in the event of some traffic infraction.

I switched my license plate bulb out with a LED to make it look "Lexus like"
There was no panel to remove... i just removed the light bulb cover (I either twisted it or pushed it "firmly" to one side...there are markings on the light bulb cover if you look at it from underneath...) and the whole thing comes out for you to switch the bulb out.
I have a '08 CR-v

Welcome to the club! Thanks for sharing the information on the ease of changing the bulb. I'll keep that in mind when the bulb eventually burns out. Welcome to the club and good luck with your 08 V!

It requires no removal of interior panels.
From the bottom (easier if the tail is slightly opened) side the whole base (black and clear lens cover) towards the right/passenger side. Then from there remove the lens and pulled the bulb out, replaced it with an LED super white bulb.
If you decide to do so, I can youtube a quick video to kinda show you.
I also still have one LED bulb if anyone's interested in it. I bought the set thinking there were two license plate bulbs, but infact there's only a single bulb in there.

Hi Splatter/everyone.
I recently acquired a 2008 CR-V.
Do you have the video showing this available? also, what kind of LED buld did you use for the license plate and where did you get it?
Additionally, (i don't know if this has been asked before), but can anyone recommend LED bulbs to replace the rear lights (i.e. parking, turn, reverse and brake) and if it can be sourced in one shop.
Thanks.

Hi Feetyfeet,
Welcome to the board and congratulations on acquiring your new V!
IMHO, I would not swap out the rear exterior lights with LED’s. I tried doing this when I bought my 2007 V early last year and was not impressed at all with the results. The LED’s were not brighter than the OEM incandescent bulbs. Since LED’s use a lot less current to run, it screwed up my turn signals as the car thinks the bulbs are burnt out . You would need a load resistor kit for each turn signal bulb or an electronic LED flasher to fix this, which was just not worth all the work for me. I ultimately got rid of the LED’s and went back to regular bulbs, but replaced them with brighter PIAA ones.
I did change all my interior festoon bulbs with LED’s and am very happy with the results.
You can check out SUPER BRIGHT LEDS home (http://www.superbrightleds.com) for one stop shopping for LED’s as well as more information. There's tons of sellers of LED's on E-Bay, too.

I bought a white 6 led bulb for the license plate bulb on my '08 CR-V. It seems a little too dark. I was thinking about getting the 9 led bulb but I don't know if it will fit. What is everyone else using? I can also get a 5 led refractor bulb instead of 6 led directional, Im not sure what to do. Any idea?

On the other hand.... you could go nuts with LEDs too as I did.:D
