I've had my '98 CR-V for a few months now, and I'm planning on changing my transmission fluid (it's an automatic).

Someone mentioned to me that I should "clean the strainer". Should I do this? If so, how?

The strainer (screen) inside the trans does not need periodic service on Honda automatic transmissions.

If you don't know the service history of your '98, then drain and fill the tranny fluid three times over a month's time. This gets all the old fluid out.

Use only Honda Z1 ATF.

Cleaning the screen is a common item on American-car transmissions. So is flushing the trans...Honda does NOT recommend this!

Don't delay if it hasn't ever been done on your 98. Honda AT's really like clean fluid. This is a very simple item for you to do yourself. No need to even jack up the vehicle.

My daughter has an 05 CR-V and she was told by the honda dealer when she got her last oil change that she needed a tranny fluid change soon (she has close to 35k on the odo) and that it would cost over a hundred bucks. Anybody do it themselves? I know I could figure it out, but I always think it's smart to ask someone who's done it already.

Sorry to hijack this thread, just thought this would be a good place to start.

Super easy to do. Watch this video. No need to jack it up even.

I have a 99 HOnda CRV and recently had my tranny flushed... What is the average amount of fluid in a tranny and how much is needed to flush it?

Thank you for any assistance I might be able to get.

The numbers you seek are in your owner's manual. If you don't have one, you can reference your manual on line at:https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/om/CR9999/CR9999MAINIDX.pdf
