Hello Everyone, not long found this forum.

I've Recently bought A 2001 (51 Plate) Honda CR-V ES Executive (Petrol, Manual 5sp) with 67k on the clock.
I'm just wondering whether it is likely to have A timing belt or A Chain. If it's A belt, all i can find in the handbook is that it should be replaced every 60k miles and to replace the water pump at the same time.
I'm not certain if this has been carried out by previous owners as it doesn't say in the history I have for the Vehicle.
I'm looking to get it sorted A.S.A.P. even if it's only for my own peace of mind.
Any Idea on how much I should be looking to pay?
Thanks in advance.

2001 is still Gen 1 so you have a B20 engine and it does have a timing belt.

Replacing the water pump along with the timing belt is a GOOD idea.

Don't know where you are (guessing the UK) so won't even guess what it might cost to do the belt/pump job.

Just looked up your maintenance schedule and it calls for timing belt replacement at 105,000 miles (168,000 km) so you have time yet.

Cheers for the reply.
Yep, your right, i'm in Leicestershire, UK.

Wow.... 105K miles, that's pretty good, I'm liking these Japanese Cars even more now. LOL :)

I always worry when giving advise or quoting numbers to members in the UK/EU because your owner's manuals might be different than ours here in the US. With that in mind, if you could make use of an on line owner's manual (US/Canada version), here is the link:

I had the same model of CRV in Austria. Like you I was unsure whether the cam belt had been replaced when we bought it. The vehicle had done almost 100,000km when we bought it. I had the cam belt and the water pump replaced at 117,000km and both would have gone on for some time but the maker strongly recommends water pump replacement in the literature here.

The job cost just over 400 euros so that might be the approximate cost in the UK - converted to pounds of course.
