Well - bug guts - I washed my V for the first time this summer by hand and I swear that bugs must be made of super glue 'cause I can't get the film they leave behind off of the car. I use some bug guts remover by Rain-X and it got the chunks off (gross I know) but left behind a film - looks like tiny little dead body outlines all over my hood. Any tricks or products that will get rid of the guts for good???

Use some rubbing compound, that should do it.:)

I bought this stuff.... I havent tried it yet but it looks like it will work well. I also bought their ''bug scrub pad"

P21S Total Auto Wash (http://www.autopia-carcare.com/p21-130.html)

Let us know how it works!

A word of advice - DO NOT use magic erasers to get bug guts off - trust me, just don't use it - I have learned my lesson:( I now have a scuff mark:(

First, tayjenn, its great to hear from you again.

I would be cautious about using rubbing compound to remove bugs. It will take them off, but it is very abrasive and it may attack your clear coat giving you dull spots, scratches, or swirls--especially on black. I would try something like Meguiars Bug and Tar Remover or a similar product by another company. When you use it though, try one bug and see what happens, don't go wholesale and find out it leaves some horrendous residue that is impossible to get off. No I have not become a Meguiars salesman. I just find their web site is easy to use.

Another thing you can try is a clay bar, but you will need a lot time. Try to avoid products with abrasives.

A soft sponge with a nylon "fishnet" covering it knocks the bugs off pretty good.

Just feel several on the store, some of the fishnet covers are hard, you want soft...

I have one of those that I use on my windshield, but to afraid to use it on the paint. Never been too impressed with it. It knocks the heavy junk off, but that smeary schmultzch remains behind. Any particular brand? Mine is just some junky thing I bought in a grocery store.

My latest is a grocery store one, also.

I used it on the glass the first few times to soften it up.
Remember, don't bear down, do maximum reps for minimal swirl marks.

Jeez what kinda bugs do you have I haven't washed my car in 2 months right after I did wash, clay, and waxed My v I took it on a return trip from Ithaca NY to New York City and got tons of bugs they just washed off with the rain. Maybe it has something to do with speed I was doing 80+ (GPS speed) the entire way back maybe higher speed splatters bugs better and distributes the bugs evenly over the hood so they wash off better:rolleyes: well on that basis we better raise the national speed limit to 150 just to save the environment from all that wasted water and the bottles use to hold car cleaning fluid :p

I just use a rough cloth on the paint and waxing the V will do Miracles and it will be infinatly easier to clean the paint. I give the winsheild maximum abuse.

just don't use a belt sander or a grinder to get the bugs off it may seem ike a simple and effective way at first but it isn't very good.:(

I've always used Meguiars and never had a problem. I also keep about 3 coats of wax on the hood and front bumper, which helps.

I cautioned a friend who wanted to get a buffer for 20 bucks at home depot to use on his car. This guy has no real detailing experience and his paint finish is fine just needs clay and wax at most. Most regular people don't need serious equipment just the right applicators, polishing clothes and some effort. I don't know what he did although his altima is a bit ricey with his after market stereo, altezza tailights, and huge obscene rims; so I am sure he is going to overkill it.
