Sorry I missed your post. I will try to answer some of your questions.

The transmission and rear differential are not the same.
The rear differential is only used in 4WD models. If you have 2WD (doubtful in Toronto) you will not have a rear differential. The rear differential detects the front wheel slipping and transfers power to the rear wheels giving you on demand 4WD. The fluid should be change far more often than the owner's manual suggests. With 52,000 KM I would suggest changing the fluid if it has not been done. The only way to check is paper maintenance records. If you can't verify that the fluid was changed, I would have it done. You must use Honda Dual Pump Fluid II.

The transmission (assuming an automatic PRND21--no clutch pedal) should have a dipstick. If you don't have clutch pedal, there has to be a dipstick, so look in your manual. Look in your manual for fluid change intervals but personally I would not go beyond 90000 KM without a transmission fluid change. Again there is no way of determining other than maintenance records. Here again you must use Honda automatic transmission fluid.

As far as doing your own maintenance, in the US, you can do your own maintenance and keep your warranty in effect by keeping records with receipts. I assume you can do that in Canada as well but I do not know that for a fact. Canadian owners? Can our friend do his own maintenance and keep his warranty in effect?

Changing oil is a relatively simple task, but it can result in major damage if it is not properly done. If you have never done it yourself, get some one familiar to help you the first time. If you have done it, your Honda is basically the same as any other car.

I don't believe that not seeing water dripping from your exhaust is a cause for concern.

I can't tell you if your warranty is still good or not, you should talk to your dealer. If not ask some questions here and hopefully our Canadian members will help you out.

Again welcome to the club! I apologize for missing your post. Good luck with your V and we will be looking to hearing from you!

Hmmm...

I bought a leased 2006 CRV SE with about the same mileage from a dealer around Toronto and they classified it as a gold certified Honda used...and extended the warantee to 120,000km...

I was lucky with the receipts for any work/fuild changes...as everything was done at the dealership....and anything that was done at any other Honda was on the receipts in the glovebox...

...and the price I paid, I think I kinda 'stole' it from the dealership... :D

But if you're happy, keep on dreaming.

Did you get the maintenance records? Very important. If not, ask the dealer. Hopefully all work was done by a Honda garage, so records will be available.
