A/C Compressor

I'm new to the forum and would like to start by saying what a great website this is! I'm so glad I found it!

And now for my problem. I have and 05 CRV that has seemingly had one issue or another since I got it. I had the differential problem that is so pervasive. Then I needed new brake pads at just of 20K. They reluctantly turned the rotors for me but I had to pay for the pads.

All along it has appeared to have a rough idle and I always pointed it out during scheduled maintenance but I've been told it's fine. There are times when the vibration is felt all the way through the seat and up to the steering wheel. This brings me to the next problem. It started making a godawful racket to the front right of the car which the Honda mechanic said due to the vibrations from a compressor, clutch and coil problem (?). Since I had just gotten the car back from the body shop due to an accident (hit a deer) I assumed that the body shop had missed something in the repairs. They replaced the condenser, not the compressor. The body shop said that compressors are rarely damaged in a front end collision. All this happened a couple of months before the warranty expired and it was documented with both the insurance company and my Honda service rep. As long as the air was not turned on, there's no noise. The a/c hasn't been used at all since the accident. Now the warranty has expired but I'm due to take the car in next week to address the issue. I hope this rambling account makes sense somehow. :)

On another website I saw where there appeared to be a lot of air conditioner/compressor problems with the CRV but have not seen any problems of this type on this forum. Am I the only one? If the compressor is the issue, could it be responsible for the rough idle (since prior whenever I turn the air or a/c on it seems to get rougher). I've also never seemed to feel the the a/c was very cold but they always told me it was fine. I'd appreciate any insight you might have to my situation. I love my CRV but feel it has needed some expensive repairs for a car just at 35K.

Thanks!

Welcome to the club and sorry to hear you are having so much trouble with your V. It would be helpful if you would let us know where you are located.

We had some reports of airconditioning compressors last summer.

Check out post #2 in this thread

Here is another thread.

Unfortunately your accident complicates matters, but none the less there is a history of the V having A/C compressor problems.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your V and this repair.

I'm located in northern Virginia, just outside of DC.

Thanks for the posts! It makes me feel better knowing that this appears to be an issue related to the car and hopefully, because I have documented the problem prior to the expiration of the warranty, I won't have any problems getting it covered. To be on the safe side, I think I'll call and open up a case file with Honda Corporate.

Since I haven't turned on the air conditioner I'm assuming I haven't had the shards of flying metal that others mentioned. Is there anything else I should be aware of with their fix to makes sure I'm not faced with anymore major repairs in the near future? Also, given my bad luck would recommend getting an extended warranty at this point? I love my car but I often think he was built on a Monday morning. :(

Thanks again! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your advice and the information on the web site. It's a life saver for those of us with limited car experience. :)

If you are considering an extended warranty, I would only go with a Honda Care. I don't know at this point whether you can still get one or not and I am sure that they will drag your through the coals if so. I would not get an extended warranty through any third party unless you know for a fact they are reputable. A lot of these warranty outfits are nothing but fly by night operations that take your cash and go. Some stick around but trying to get them to cover a breakdown is very tough. BEWARE! BEWARE!.

If you do consider a Honda Care, you can buy them through the internet considerably cheaper than buying it off your dealer. Honda is trying to close down internet sales, so that may not be an option for long.

Again good luck with your repair.
